Take a look at the Japan pavillion at Epcot in that map. Now, I worked at WDW for four years and spent a lot of time backstage at Epcot, but I have no idea about this... What is that HUGE building at the rear of Japan? It's not the store, nor the art exhibit, nor the restaurant... I just don't know what it could be. Anyone???
Answered my own question... and the answer is pretty awesome! I did a little digging and found the following in a book on Epcot printed in 1982. Get a load of this:
"Japan pavilion's show, when it is ready, will afford an unparalleled overview of Japanese history. Entitled "Meet the World," it will also be the feature attraction of Tokyo Disneyland, scheduled to open in 1983. The Florida version will be substantially the same as the Tokyo show, although there will be a few changes, if only in phraseology.
Nevertheless, audiences in Tokyo and Florida alike will be fascinated by the Disney way of showing them history in a manner they've never before experienced. It's a manner
nobody has experienced, combining as it does Audio-Animatronics figures, live-action film, and animated film.
Inside the castle, the audience is seated in a rotating carousel theater, which will revolve in front of four stages, each presenting a chaper of the story of Japan."
Seems like there was supposed to be a Japanese Carousel of Progress! Wonder why that idea fell by the wayside... Anyway, now Japan has this huge attraction building and no attraction. It's been sitting vacant for almost 25 years!
