OK it has been brought to my attention, thank you cmcd13, that the map now has 3-d pics of WDW. I have been looking at them for about the last hour and I am impressed with what I'm seeing. The only problem is that they are still in the process of photograghing the complex.
Heres what you can see:
EPCOT
half of MGM
DTD
Various resorts including OKW, Corinado Springs, GF, Poly, WL, FW, etc.
Various golf courses
The race Track

And what you can't see:
MK
AK
AKL

You all remember the link right?

Just use this address to bring it up:

Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

That's friggin' sweet! Thanks, Ravenscroft! I've seen Google Earth maps of the area, but nothing as detailed as this. Definitely worthwhile to check out.

P.S. -- Must be quite early in the morning in the Epcot shots--no cars in the lot.

One question for anyone out there who might know...

Take a look at the Japan pavillion at Epcot in that map. Now, I worked at WDW for four years and spent a lot of time backstage at Epcot, but I have no idea about this... What is that HUGE building at the rear of Japan? It's not the store, nor the art exhibit, nor the restaurant... I just don't know what it could be. Anyone???

As far as I can remember, there is no movie at Japan... does anyone know if that's changed? (But it definitely does look like plenty of space for an attraction of some sort.)

Maybe it's space for a future attraction for whenever they get around to it?

Does anyone know what that big field behind the outpost is? It looks like there's plenty of space there to build another country

AK is viewable in the 3d (birds eye) mode. You can see the Tree of Life as well as the dinoland midway area...

Actually, you're exactly right! That space IS for building another country.

A while ago (maybe a year ago) there was a thread in these forums discussing the expansion of World Showcase. When the park was built, the imagineers provided room for expansion and for new countries to be constructed. The space where the outpost is currently located could be the home of a future nation.

My falt JS I guess I just went right by it. I love that in MGM you can't see the stunt spectacular but you can see their practice area. and you can see some plans for the indiana jones thing sitting there. I love this map you can see all of the stuff they don't want you to.

's ok. I spent alot of time looking around WDW property. trying to memorize the roads and things so when I get down there again, I'll be able to drive around with no problems.

I did the bird's eye of my house, and it almost looks like there's someone cutting the lawn. I know it was taken on a week day, cause the school parking lot down the street is full...

Answered my own question... and the answer is pretty awesome! I did a little digging and found the following in a book on Epcot printed in 1982. Get a load of this:

"Japan pavilion's show, when it is ready, will afford an unparalleled overview of Japanese history. Entitled "Meet the World," it will also be the feature attraction of Tokyo Disneyland, scheduled to open in 1983. The Florida version will be substantially the same as the Tokyo show, although there will be a few changes, if only in phraseology.

Nevertheless, audiences in Tokyo and Florida alike will be fascinated by the Disney way of showing them history in a manner they've never before experienced. It's a manner nobody has experienced, combining as it does Audio-Animatronics figures, live-action film, and animated film.

Inside the castle, the audience is seated in a rotating carousel theater, which will revolve in front of four stages, each presenting a chaper of the story of Japan."

Seems like there was supposed to be a Japanese Carousel of Progress! Wonder why that idea fell by the wayside... Anyway, now Japan has this huge attraction building and no attraction. It's been sitting vacant for almost 25 years!

Me too, addlema! I can't believe I had never heard that one before. Ahhhhh... how fun it would be to scour the Disney Archives in Burbank...
