I was talking about the ones on the Backlot Tour. I know a lot of the movies on the Great Movie Ride aren't Disney films. Although that attraction could stand to be updated too ~ or at least cleaned up a bit...Wizzard419 wrote:If you mean the ones in the park/great movie ride? Not really, I think a few of them are so old they are public domain now. If they used their own movies they would still be required to pay royalties since it's the parks division using them and the money not only goes to the WDC but also the various stakeholders (such as the actors and crew).

With sets... probably not so much, though setpieces are becoming more and more rare since even the most non effects driven films use special effects to make it look like they aren't using them.
For example, one of the most heavily used sets here in OC is the Tustin (former) USMC (might have been Navy) blimp hangars. They are constantly used for films and tv and even made an appearnce in Pearl Harbor. What they did for that was they painted the sides that faced the camera to look like new, but they couldn't take the buildings with them after filming was complete.

Re: Missing Backlot Tour AGAIN!
Our first trip in 2010 we didn't get to do the backlot tour so when we went back in 2011 we made a point of riding it. I thought it was ok,I don't think I would have felt like I was missing something by not doing it, after seeing it , but sometimes you've just got to get it out of your system, even if others tell you it's not that great!

In my opinion, the current Backlot Tour is awful! The original one from years ago was much more relevant and was very interesting. The Tour they have now is a grand waste of time.

Well, it was relevant in the past because that is when most of the present stuff was built/installed.

Re: Missing Backlot Tour AGAIN!
I rather dislike the Backlot Tour. I think part of that was because I rode it two times in a row! It is not a short ride and I was in the 7th grade. It was my first time to WDW and I wanted to go on more exciting rides. My younger sister wasn't feeling well...overtired and dehydrated probably. Both of my parents were eager to see the ride though so I went with my dad first and then the moment we got off I went back on with my mom. I am hoping that the next time I get to go to WDW we can skip that attraction. (Although my dad is a poster on this site and will see this and made doubly sure we go back on the ride.

I thought they still had rights to some MGM content even without the co-branding of the park. I could be wrong though.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

They don't have any rights (since various other companies own the content) but I think they have an arrangement similar to the Marvel one where the rights to the content were sold to other companies but the old agreements were still valid and would not be changed unless both sides wanted to. In the case of Marvel it is kind of a win/win for disney and a win/lose for Universal since their brand is being promoted in the competition's park and the competition has the choice to keep it or spend money to remove the brand.

Cool! Glad you joined him on here. Now the two of you have to talk your Mom into joining!PurpleFairies wrote:My dad is goofyfan.Amy wrote:Who is your Dad?PurpleFairies wrote:I rather dislike the Backlot Tour. He is the one who told me about the site. Now we are constantly asking each other if we saw this post or that post on subsonic. My mom just rolls her eyes.

That may be a lost cause Amy, especially if she is like my wife and rolls her eyes anytime she sees me posting or hears one of the streams load up.
