Just found out yesterday that the Backlot Tour is going to be closed while we're at WDW.

Have you ever been able to see it yet? You aren't missing all that much honestly...but it would be nice for you to see it at least once

I've NEVER seen it! We always ran out of time in 2008 and 2010, and since the girls were little in 2001 we didn't go to what was then MGM Studios.

Yes they still do that scene while you stand in line.

Well, there is your reason to have to return...as if you needed one

Yeah, you're totally missing newly released hit movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Aliens, and Pearl Harbor.

I second Amy's sentiment that you have not missed much. So do something more productive like getting a carrot cake cookie at Writer's Stop.

Not a big fan of carrot cake. My 17-y-o is though. We'll have to put those on our list. It's becoming a long list.

Maybe that is one of the things they will be addressing with the refurb ~ hopefully!

The only part I enjoyed is when I got to be IN the show. Put on the rain suit, scrub the boat and hit the deck when the "shots" were fired. How fun! I love that Disney memory. I've also been in the Indiana Jones show, which was a blast too!
I'm with you all that I really wish they would make some updates to the movie ride. Still such a great concept, only if they can keep up with the times.

I think one of the big reasons they don't update is that it simply would cost a fortune in royalties alone, even before they started construction. Even when newer Indy films came out they stuck with the first movie.

Good call. But what an unfortunate waste of space. They should do a ride through Disney movies or something fun like that!

Aren't most, if not all, of those movies Disney owned anyhow? Do they have to pay royalties to themselves?

If you mean the ones in the park/great movie ride? Not really, I think a few of them are so old they are public domain now. If they used their own movies they would still be required to pay royalties since it's the parks division using them and the money not only goes to the WDC but also the various stakeholders (such as the actors and crew).
