Haha, thanks for bringing back memories of that! I forgot all about those. I won a couple in elementary school (I was only good at doing pull-ups because I was really small and there wasn't much of me to pull up!)Wizzard419 wrote:Sounds like someone didn't earn a presidential fitness award.

They really only pay lip service to it. The Presidential Fitness Awards are NBD at most schools, unfortunately.
For the record, I didn't earn one in school, primarily owing to my back injury as a little kid, but also because I just can't run. At all. Period. Never could, never will, most likely. Anyway...
I was primarily referring to our current President and First Lady probably not getting involved in creating a health / body science kind of exhibit in the Wonders of Life space because they have nothing to gain from it politically right now. It wouldn't be good for the President to be endorsing something built by a private corporation in a private facility that's not accessible to everyone. He'd get a lot of backlash for that from a lot of groups who try to represent the underprivileged.
I think it's a good idea, because Mrs. Obama is so pro-health, but I just don't see it happening.

Yeah, I think the Presidential Fitness awards have slipped quite a bit in recognition. They weren't a big deal at our school, other than it meant we had something different to do in gym for a few days. I can't remember winning or not winning one. I would guess not winning because of the pull-ups or flexed arm hang or whatever it was. I was a scrawny thing with no muscles, but I was smart. Rather have the brains than the brawn anyhow.cy1229 wrote:They really only pay lip service to it. The Presidential Fitness Awards are NBD at most schools, unfortunately.

I agree with you on your thoughts cy1229. No political gain for the President on backing something miniscule like a fitness exhibit at WDW. And the first lady wouldn't stick her neck out for anything these days either...

Re: Wonders of Life Pavilion Memories UPDATE-Buzzy Lives!
I think part of the reason it might have slipped is that kids are getting way fatter (that's the blunt way of saying it) and we do not like making anyone feel that they are doing poorly, which is also why that Habit Heroes exhibit was closed.
The reason that they won't lend their presence to anything these days is that the right literally will jump on them for anything. She plants an organic vegetable garden with the message that fatty fatty no parents should eat healthier and they call it indoctrination.

They may be slipping your side of the Atlantic but I'm about 1500 points of gaining my presidential bronze award.

TOTALLY agree with you. I'm overweight, owing primarily to my lack of physical activity, and I'm so grateful my daughters have taken to swimming like ducks to water. They enjoy the exercise and always feel better when they're swimming. They'll be going over 2 months without a practice now, and I hope I can encourage them to walk, or ride bikes, or something. They'll probably tell me I need to go with them...Wizzard419 wrote:I think part of the reason it might have slipped is that kids are getting way fatter (that's the blunt way of saying it) and we do not like making anyone feel that they are doing poorly, which is also why that Habit Heroes exhibit was closed.
But, until people in this country start standing up and placing intelligence, education, and hard work above being entertained, we're going to continue to see a backslide of intelligently-minded activities and exhibits, and a push forward of the whiz-bang-pop-wow kind of things that cater to the attention span of a gnat.

Yes Amy you can keep going as an adult. I am working in presidential champions bronze at the minute but another 3-4 runs it will be completed and then I'll move on up to silver.figmentaholic wrote:Sleepy90 wrote:They may be slipping your side of the Atlantic but I'm about 1500 points of gaining my presidential bronze award.

Who cares? I would go into Walmart with a plumber's costume and major crack if I knew someone was going to take a picture of me.
