Re: MK Beer and Wine?
To me this is a huge issue. The MK is and has been a dry park and IMO should be left that way. Walt didn't want alcohol in the parks and to put it in his vision annoys me.

Let's make it $0.04 as I agree with you about this...Len90 wrote:To me this is a huge issue. The MK is and has been a dry park and IMO should be left that way. Walt didn't want alcohol in the parks and to put it in his vision annoys me.

Well, cy1229 had mentioned NaCler...but yes, you are correct, he should be in that list as well.mindflipper wrote:I think you forgot NaCler in your list there, Amy...Amy wrote:I don't know if Jacca has ever had one. Or 3 straws. If we don't like spicy stuff, will we still like this drink? Because everyone on here raves about them (ok not EVERYONE, mostly just NaCler and Jacca and ... I forget who, it's mostly guys, isn't it?).
We have encountered them on more than one occasion. No run-ins, like altercations, but just proximity to people that have obviously had one too many, both in EPCOT and on the buses. And I don't remember if it was the past trip, or two trips ago, I was on Tower of Terror with a group of midde-aged guys who I can only assume were drunk as obnoxious as they were acting. I mentioned it to the CMs when I got off because the guys whooped and hollered through the entire ride, and were generally worse than any partying frat boys I encountered in college. And this was about 10 o'clock in the morningGoofyfan wrote:How Many have had a bad encounter with intoxicated guests. I have not seen an issue yet. But it sounds like some of you had. I'm not against alcohol and enjoy a drink now and then myself, but I don't like people that feel they must get plastered to have a good time. Especially in WDW!

I know some people have their panties in a bunch over the notion, but the actual reason it was done was that guests wanted it and they wanted a higher end establishment. Isn't catering to customer requests the foundation of the parks?

Re: MK Beer and Wine?
It's not the foundation of the parks to give into customer requests, or otherwise they would have done something better with EPCOT's Journey Into Your Imagination and they haven't. So maybe you would suggest allowing people to get drunk at MK is least costly than re-doing an awful ride and therefore that's a reason for Disney to allow it? No, not necessarily, because as you have pointed out in the past: some guests are just stupid. There have been guests who wanted to do doombuggy hopping while the ride is in motion, but they did it anyway and then sue Disney because they didn't stop them from doing something incredibly stupid that resulted in their injuries. So it's not the foundation to give into customer requests, because stupid guests will have stupid requests, and by that logic we can assume that alcoholic guests will have requests to get totally-p*** drunk. If you want that, go to EPCOT. That's what World Showcase is for, right? I think that's what WWDRH and NaCler discovered on their last trip...Wizzard419 wrote:I know some people have their panties in a bunch over the notion, but the actual reason it was done was that guests wanted it and they wanted a higher end establishment. I wish they could keep MK in its prohibition era.

Re: MK Beer and Wine?
The foundation of the parks is to make it an expereince that the guests want, not making the guests follow some out of date values, is it not? Catering to requests is different than giving in, they are trying to be a fine dining establishment and I would imagine most adults would rather pair their food with something other than bad coffee, sugary sodas, or tap water.
It's also asinine to say that people will be getting drunk there, it's not a bar and they won't be serving hard liquor. If you want to drink, you will be buying a meal. In Epcot, the liquor flows more freely considering that most of the places have it in a "to-go" setting as opposed to forcing you to combine it with food. Also they have discretion in serving, not only for apperances but also for legal reasons as if an overserved person is involved in something bad, the establishment is also liable.
Also, MK is the only park that doesn't serve last I checked (all the other WDW parks serve) so there is no real precedence for why it would be a problem.
I also see people throw about "Walt never wanted", is there any formal documentation of this?

Re: MK Beer and Wine?
I would be careful in saying not drinking is an out of date value. My children, whose father is an alcoholic, have decided as teenagers that they don't want to drink when they're adults. I think the question is more about personal responsibility and choice than it is about inflicting one's values on another person. My girls see me drinking responsibly, and getting tipsy on occasion, and that doesn't impact them one way or another. Businesses don't HAVE to serve beer and alcohol to survive. And adults don't have to have a beer or a glass of wine with dinner to be adult. And, unfortunately, drinking responsibly is a concept lost on some people.
I was just thinking that ramping up the adult atmosphere at MK might make it someplace parents like to be, rather than have to be (present company excluded, Subbers). To me, it's irrelevant either way, whether they do or don't serve in the MK. Do, don't, just make sure there's a really good reason for changing what they do. As has been pointed out on another thread, "smuggling" in alcohol isn't that difficult to do.

Re: MK Beer and Wine?
I didn't say that, I said that keeping it a secret locked away is.
Saying a company doesn't have to serve to survive is sort of true, but also not really true. It depends on the estabishment mostly, fast food and other quick and dirty places don't need to but higher end does. If you're paying $40+ a plate, then you would probably want more options than coke and sprite.
That's also another important point, not everyone that comes to WDW wants to be there, and if they can make the experience suck a little less for those adults, then that also is an improvement.

I can agree.... Leave MK dry....I realy didn't think people went to Disney to become intoxicated. The little ones don't need to see such behavior.

I don't know Wiz, there's something a little old-world sexy about pulling a flask from underneath the petticoats.
You make a good point about the $40 a plate dinner and choices. I don't think that way, but most people do. Not "dissing" that, just saying yeah, I didn't think about it that way because I'm perfectly fine with iced tea with my steak.

What, changes coming? Change is inevitable, my friend. So if there are changes, they should be for good reasons, not just willy-nilly or for the sake of change.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
