Thus, the rather crass money-grubbing aspect of his genesis makes him a bit unappealing (or downright revolting) to some people.
Perfectly said.
On our last visit, my daughter and I were in Epcot when I stated we'd never purchase a Duffy purely out of principle. The Cast Member overheard me and shouted back, "Many people agree with you!"
If Duffy had appeared in ANY Mickey Mouse cartoon, I'd have no problem with Disney marketing him. But he was created purely to extract money from guests. There are plenty other avenues for revenue. I think they need to re-think this one.
He originated in Tokyo Disneyland. They should have kept him there.

I have no reason for hating Duffy, but for some reason he just annoys me so much.

I actually have never liked teddy bears, so I would probably dislike him no matter what.
I have a picture from my last trip with my dad standing beside a giant Duffy statue in the toy store in Downtown Disney with his thumbs down and a mad look.

Well I didn't really know his back story when I went there in May. I knew about him from the Disney Store website. I did purchase a precious Duffy Bear for me, I mean, my 1-year-old that loves stuffed animals. I just see him as anything else in the parks that is made for commercial purposes. I think that characters that were introduced to us because they were in a movie had some commercial purposes behind them too. I mean maybe they made the movie out of the sheer fun of it but at the same time I think they were hoping for some type of compensation

But of course, this is all coming from someone that likes Duffy because I can still see my baby grabbing him and hugging him at the Mexican Pavilion at Epcot. Of course, she would've hugged on any stuffed animal I would have given her

Duffy is like a person who is at a party but was not invited. Everybody sees him and says "Who is that?" Everybody knows Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Daisy, Pluto but does anyone put Duffy in that group???

So I'm guessing he's a party crasher? Or is he the character that everyone picks on and then later on is the cool guy?
