I have two jarhead nephew-in-laws and a former jarhead father in law..

My dad was in the military, unfortunately it wasn't the US military.

My Dad was in the USAF, but he is gone now, so I doubt I could get military rates without him along

I'd pay full price to be able to take him to Disney one more time!
Aww.. My grandfather was in the military.. I think army, but he died when my mom was fairly young, long before I was born, so I never met him. I think my uncle was in the reserves for a while.. and my other uncle worked for the government, but not as a solider so I don't think he counts which is a shame cause he only live about 3 hours away from Disney.
It has to be military not government, right?

Shades of Green has a nice website that includes eligibility requirements. Looks like all military, Department of Defense and Coast Guard. Here is the direct link to the eligibility page...

Thanks for pointing this one out. I'd never heard of it.
I brought it up to my dad (retired DOD) and now it looks like we'll be going to Disney World in September and staying there!
Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.

Way back when, wasn't this resort called the Disney Inn?

Awesome, I'm glad I could help out! That's why I love these forums. They really are a wealth of knowledge as well as a great place to talk to great people. Just keep in mind that the resort is not run exactly the way the other resorts are regarding buses and other things, so be sure to plan accordingly.

We'll be there September 10-15, and we're renting a car to get around so we don't have to rely on buses. I'd just walk over to the Polynesian and catch the monorail, but my mom's disabled so that wouldn't work.
My 3 year old son found some coins tonight and asked to put them in his piggy bank. He said he wanted to save them so that we can go to Disney World again.

We decided not to tell him we're going back; I can't wait to see the look on his face when he figures it out.
Anyway, yeah thanks again for pointing out this resort. It's rare to find something at Disney World that I don't know anything about - but you did it!
Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.

Very nice BenB, I'm very glad to hear it. I love surprising the kids with a trip.
My plan is to do this on all of the resorts. People can then post pics and hidden treasures they have found. Make this a really helpful tool for people planning trips. That is if the mods don't mind a separate thread for each resort.

Good idea! I would think it would be ok since the plan is to really highlight each separate resort. It would make it super simple for people to search for what they are looking for as well

Hey Ben, have you seen that video on You Tube where the parents get the daughter to open a backpack full of Disney stuff and snacks and stuff and then asks her where she would use all of this, then surprised her that they were leaving that day... and she starts to cry? It was so sweet!!
I don't suppose you are gonna take video of your son's reaction, hmm?
I know how you feel about issues with mobility. I go with a group to Disney every February, and the head of the group, the guy who organizes it has a lot of mobility issues. In the last couple of years he has taken to using a scooter, so that has made things much slower. We have to use the buses because despite having our car there, the scooter will not fit into it.

I've seen a bunch of videos but I don't know about that one. Do you have a link?
We'll try to get John's reaction on video - the problem is, he's a bright kid and I don't know how far in advance he'll figure it out! It might even be at the airport. But if not, we'll definitely have a camera on him as we get close.
Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.
