What happened to Mulan?

Post by Esmeralda » Apr Wed 05, 2006 10:36 am

I'm not sure if this belongs in Disneyland or Disney World, but I'll put it here. Why isn't there a Mulan ride or show or grotto or anything in the parks? Seriously, she is way cooler than any princess, not to mention her fabulous sidekicks, Mushu and Crickee. She's actually a good role model and uses her brain on top of it all! Anyhow, I just can't figure out why she's so absent in the parks.
Drop another coin in slot and I will tell you more.

Once they finish the additional areas in AK, I'm sure they'll be doing something in either the new Asia area (de to her being based in China) or in the new Mythical creatures area (for Mushu). But you're right, it seems a bit late in coming...

Seems to me that mulan was just not as popular as the other princesses. Could be that the merchandise didn't move as well. And at this point I would agree with js3901 that it maybe too late.

then again you never know... lol

Yeah, a lot of my friends like Mulan. She's in the Stars and Motorcars parade everyday with Mushu tailing along. Not sure if she appears anywhere at WDW, but she appears near the Animation Building in DCA. And yeah, years ago, there was a Mulan parade.

Does anyone know if she appears at the China Pavillion? That seems like such a logical place for her to appear.

Mulan did have a parade at the Studios at one time. Mulan (the film) wasn't that big of a film in terms of money made and Disney uses that as a litmus test for testing popularity and they use that in consideration for attractions at WDW (a notable exception is Dinosaur at AK, which was a bomb).

but of course, the ride pre-dates the movie. The ride used to be Countdown to Extinction.

Addlema, this is way off subject.......I thought of you last night cause The Goonies was on ABC Family channel :D I have it on tape but it was fun to watch it again just the same!!!

I like Pixar too, but since it's Disney who started the parks, they should really play more to thier stuff, but I guess what ever sells the best get promoted the best

Bostoncq: Chunk all grown up is now on those VH1 programs (you know, best of etc). He looks nothing like he used too.

Anyways..Your right. It's what they think the biggest draw will be. Sometimes we have to remember Disney is in the business of making money. They create a lot of magic and make a lot of dreams come true, but they also must make money.

Honestly, I think whatever they can do to bring more revenue to the parks is great. That means more rides, better theming, etc.

And since Pixar is now Disney, and Pixar films make more money then anything else Disney has hands in they should exploit it.

And you know.. Some of the Pixar themed rides are the best/better of the new breed of rides: Buzzlight Year for example.

I can't wait to get out to DL so I can do Buzzlight Year, it looks really cool.
How funny I would love to see what Chunk looks like now, I will have to watch for him on VH1.

it's not just DL that has Buzz, WDW has it too, just a different name. It's the same thing, though.

Mulan was not one of Disney's best movies from a revenue point of view and the direct-to-video "sequels" are always terrible. But if you liked it, more power to you :P
