The first time I visited WDW I was 10, and the stretching room freaked me out. I spent the whole rest of the attraction with my eyes tightly closed, meaning my 10-year-old imagination was picturing everything the Ghost Host says... and as we all know, imagination can expand your greatest fears into an overwhelming nightmare!

My mental image of the attraction was so strong that when I went back for my honeymoon 17 years later, I was petrified in the queue and almost backed out. But I pushed myself through, loved it (of course) and now it's one of my favorite rides.

Oh, and it's nowhere near as scary as my imagination told me it was! :)
 That's funny! I can only imagine where your 10 year old imaginative self took you during that first ride  Glad you conquered your fears this time around :hm_ghost:

Let's just say that when the narrator said, "There's a ghost sitting beside you!" I definitely pictured the scariest ghost possible floating right in the doom buggy with me! :)
Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.

Awwww....that's a neat story! We all have our own unique fears, don't we? Glad you conquered yours.

I left another theme park which shall not be named without conquering a couple of rides my family pestered me to try. Maybe next time!

I was terrified of the bride in the Haunted Mansion when I was little... Heck even when I was older, she still creeped me out.
Space mountain also took me forever to conquer. I was down there with one of those friends you always compete with, and neither one of would admit to being afraid of anything. So we went on, and I loved it.

I think that makes a big difference. I remember the Haunted Mansion when I was only 6. My parents were having fun and not scared, so I had fun. If they had been fearful, I'm sure I would have as well. Your travel companions have a big impact on you...especially when you are little!

Yep, same here. I hadn't ridden it since 2003, I think. In fact, the last time I rode it, it was just up and down once. But this time, I just determined that, well, how bad could it BE??? I was nervous in the queue...in fact my DD kept saying things like, "I'm kind of nervous....I haven't done this in a long time....kind of scared" etc etc and I'm thinking, "Thanks for the support, kid." But I hung in there, got in that elevator and never looked back! Rode it two times after that with DD. DH can only do it once before he's finished!

Few things ever are! I understand childhood aversions carrying into adulthood. I will never eat Campbell's vegetable soup because I got sick shortly after eating it when I was 5.

I'm glad you discovered the HM. It's a wonderful treasure.

Speaking of Haunted Mansion, my oldest DD recently told me that when she was little she never could understand why everyone screamed in the stretching room. Then, finally, one trip, when she was 11, she finally looked up, and was like "Oh, that's the reason everyone screams."

Whoo-hoo! Glad you summoned up the courage to conquer Splash. That drop is a bit of a doozy, but it is fun and over in such a short time...

Yeah, Splash Mountain is one I still haven't done. I keep "almost" doing it but wimping out. I REALLY don't like drops/roller coasters/etc.
Hoping to go back to the Magic soon.
