Orange Bird returns to the Magic Kingdom

Post by MmeLeota » Apr Tue 17, 2012 11:56 am

Does anyone remember the Orange Bird from the Sunshine Tree Terrace in the 70s and 80s? If so, a blast from the past is back!
At a Disney D23 meet up held at the terrace this morning, it was revealed that the Orange Bird is officially making a comeback! Considering that the Orange Bird had been the "mascot" of the Destiantion D: Walt Disney World event that was held early last year, I can't say that I'm surprised. Personally, I think he's cute but he holds no nostalgic wand over me. My first visit to WDW wasn't until 1992, and my first visit to MK wasn't until 1998...and apparently Orange Bird was retired in the late 80s (according to the article). But I'm intrigued by the Citrus Swirl...sounds yummy!

...now if they were to bring back Dreamfinder, that would be a whole other can of worms! :figment:

Yes we were there on the weekend and the Sunshine Terrace was open, pretty cool! And I actually saw the Orange Bird stuff on the weekend but thought that it had been a part of the 40th celebration all along. I didn't know that they just announced the return of the little guy! He's cute!

Yes, I definitely have memories of the Orange Bird. I remember drinking orange juice out of plastic orange shaped containers. Better than a Dole Whip any day!

We've been seeing a lot of the little guy lately through D23...he's been in anything related to WDW. But my thought was just that it was a new character or something...but apparently all the D23 press (and 40th anniversary celebrations) was just leading up to bringing him back.

Heehee:) I must admit that comment was intentionally inflammatory:). The Dole Whip was good, but I have very vivid memories of those orange shaped juice containers...Maybe we took them home with us and used them for a time afterwards? Who knows!

I know that this is like commiting blasphamy, but I agree that the citrus swirl is better than a dole whip. Especially the original citrus swirls that were made with vanilla ice cream and real frozen orange juice. ( Not the later version that replaced the frozen orange juice with orange sherbet.)

I think the pina colada slush there is better than a Dole Whip... YOU DID NOT HEAR THAT.

Food? I only see ice cream there. Do we have the right place, to the poster who said that?
