Count me in on this one! My wife & I honeymooned in 2000. We've been back about 8 times with the kids. We are nuts, but love it!

Re:
We felt the same way. No desire to do a wedding at WDW or DLR. Our wedding was in Washington D.C., and the honeymoon was in Havana, Cuba (legally, on a Department of the Treasury sanctioned educational trip).Akyriel wrote:awww i'm not married yet...
funny that I have no desire to spend wedding/honeymoon/anniversaries at WDW or DLR...
However, I DO have a very special (non-Disney) place where I want my wedding to be held... if only...
However, I guess the whole thing does have a WDW connection. I proposed on the boat ride in the Mexico Pavilion just as we left the dock, passing the Mayan pyramid. It was quiet, all I did was slip the ring on her finger because I didn't want to make a big scene, but the ladies behind us heard the whole thing, and sat in silence for the rest of the ride. Afterwards we got margaritas at the tequila bar in the pavilion. I got cilantro in mine instead of basil. It was great.
So, we tell our friends and family that we got engaged in Mexico on a cruise as we sailed in front of an ancient Mayan pyramid. As long as there are no follow up questions, the story is golden!

I agree, that is clever!
I'm single, but if I ever get married, I would like to honeymoon in WDW. Maybe do a Disney Cruise then too. Absolutely no desire to get married there, however. Too expensive, too far for most of my relatives and friends to travel to for just a wedding, and I want to get married in my church. Maybe a vow renewal ceremony in Epcot somewhere 10+ years after the fact. That would be neat!
My parents went to WDW for their honeymoon. Since that was back in the early 70s though, the only thing open at the time was MK. So they went to other central FL and Daytona-area attractions too.

That's pretty neat that your parents honeymooned at WDW. I would guess it wasn't quite as popular a destination back then.SorcererDonald16 wrote:I agree, that is clever!

I don't know, to be honest. Personally, a lot of distant relatives, family friends, and even some of my college friends' parents honeymooned there in the 70s. I guess it was a draw in that most of those folks probably never got to see Disneyland. It's been awhile since I've seen that photo album, but I remember looking at it as a little girl and thinking how "funny" the characters looked back then.Amy wrote:That's pretty neat that your parents honeymooned at WDW. My parents had actually already been to WDW separately before they even met. I think my mom went the month after MK opened, and my dad sometime that next year.

My husband and I got married in February of 1996 and we went to Disney World for the first time in June of that year. We say it's our second honeymoon!

They usually did October-October celebrations back then if I remember. I think now they do 18 month celebrations.

We honeymooned at WDW in July of 2008, we've been back a few times since then and are taking a year or two off to have kids. We plan on taking our two boys for the first time in December of 2013, we can not wait!
