Test Track to close April 16 for refurb

Has anyone been able to confirm the closing yet? I know there was a big send off last night. However, the park operating calendar has everything listed from June 1-30.

Wow... I did not expect them to shut down one of their big thrill rides during the peak tourisim time (that did say Fall, right?).

Rumors for reopening are anywhere from sometime in September to November 30th.

I was going to say hurricane season (well the rains they get from the ones that make it near them) might be why they are doing the work during the summer, but even then they get some strong rains.

i, too would like to know this, most of the exterior is stainless steel... no need to paint...

Oh, not for construction, but testing. The ride still basically can't run in the rain, correct?

Lightning is the main weather factor that will shut down Test Track but it can run in the rain. They just don't so the guests don't get pelted by it while going 60+ mph.

I thought it had more to do with the track itself being wet (plus the oil from the tires) causing problems for the cars than anything else.

I believe that would be "little bitty sting-ging rain" in the words of Forrest Gump.

If that were the case, then Test Track wouldn't reopen until a few hours after the rain stopped. Heck running the attraction after a rainfall would help dry the track a little quicker.

Maybe they knew people would come during the summer anyhow, and having a new attraction might entice some additional visitors for the slower fall season???

Keep in mind, this was approved and being backed financially by GM/Chevrolet. Kinda like how Siemens paid for the refurb of Spaceship Earth back in 07. So they have a big say in when to do this.
