Complimentary Wifi Now Available at All Resorts

Post by Soarin08 » Mar Fri 16, 2012 7:06 pm

As of today-

http://allears.net/acc/internet.htm

It's about freaking time. When I went to get the internet at Pop, the woman was so hateful to me for interrupting her in the middle of standing there doing nothing. Now if they'd roll it out in the parks for us who are glued to our iPhones, we'd be in business.

It's about time! We had free wi-fi in January at CBR and wondered if they were changing policies or if it was just for marathon weekend.

The internet was never a big deal for us when on a Disney vacation. We would maybe buy it once or twice over the course of the stay and most stuff was handled over the iPhone anyway. My personal feeling is that if you are on vacation, there shouldn't really be any reason to sit on the internet and amuse yourself. There is plenty to see and do as is.

Nice to see the free wifi in all rooms, but I still won't be on the internet much when on vacation.

True, I wouldn't spend much time on the internet either, but it is nice to empty out junk and take care of quick emails while you have a little downtime. Last time we were there I had to do a work survey and it took quite awhile on my phone...luckily I was able to complete it on one of the longer bus rides from the resort to a park :D But it would have been easier on the computer in the room...

I prefer it since I do most of my schooling online, and it was always easier to be able to keep on top of things when my family was down on vacation. Plus at night in the room, it is nice to have the option to be able to get on and check email and whatnot if you need to. Or check in for flights, etc.

Finally Disney got with the times. For the prices they charge per night, that is the least they can give you.

I'm with you Len90, I would not waste a moment of my vacation on a phone, computer, ipad, or any electronic piece of ****. Pretty much the only time I have the TV on is to get info about the parks. I can see how free wi-fi could benefit others though. I find it very sad that most people can't "disconnect" anymore, even for the shortest period of time.

Yeah, it's not like it really is costing them anything more as the wifi is already there...

it was not the price (although it was alternate revenue) it is the bandwidth that 6000 computers accessing the internet at once... that was why you had to pay for it, to limit the casual surfers, and possibly to limit the unsavory elements of computer intrusion to a minimum. and connection to a foreign PC (not controlled by their IT) on this side of a firewall could be detrimental to the system as a whole(if not properly secured and firewalled). now if they were smart, they would have used the proceeds from payment of services to purchase the hardware for this SEPERATE network. seperate insures no funny business with the critical systems (reservations, park operations)

Oh...
I would guess Disney has pretty good security on their computer networks!

Yeah...I have decent security setup on my network at home...probably good enough to keep most hackers out...so I would assume that Disney has something better than me.

I would also hope they have some kind of filter put on their network.

Now, I understand the whole idea of "unplugging" and not needing the internet while at WDW...but I also see it as a good thing whenever you have some down time...especially if you're talking about someone who's work/school is primarily online and are unable to completely get away for the length of the trip.

 Yeah, more "daily" reports! (especially for those who aren't taking as many pictures during the trip to help them remember the deets of each day ;) nobody specific there)
