I believe it is meant to be like the Kim Possible missions at EPCOT and always be a free game.

Define long lines. It isn't like guests are waiting 30+ minutes per window/portal. Only really long lines I saw were during the 24 hour event because all the regulars had nothing better to do. Since then, the longest I've waited for any window/portal is 5 minutes.
Yeah, I wouldn't say 5 minutes is super long to wait. And since the game is free, I can't imagine guests would mind if they have to wait a few minutes here or there.

I see Wiz's point though. You can watch others doing the same window/adventure you are doing. Doesn't that kind of kill the experience? You can see what spells work before you try them or rule out spells that didn't work. Will the game let you skip a portal if you know where the next one is?

I was just reading a post on facebook where it seems this game is really catching on and people are starting to be a bit annoyed with the waits they are encountering...

In this case any wait is probably too long, since it defeats the purpose of making the monitors subtle. There is also the issue of knowledge, while they may or may not be the same scenario each time someone activates it, another player may learn what card is needed to beat them without having to figure it out on their own.

It will be interesting to see what happens when it gets busy during the summer. If the system doesn't have a way to disperse the people more and delay them, then you will have lines for each portal.

With the Kim Possible one, I think Verizon was the sponsor, which makes it acceptable to be free, but if there is nothing to sell and no company is putting up the cash, then I would be very unhappy (from the biz side) that they used 4 years dev time, and all the daily operating costs with no merch tie in.

I can see your point there. Have they really been working on this for four years?
I still see them selling packs of the cards, sort of like baseball cards - not a complete set - so you have to buy multiple packs and collect and trade. And maybe they will develop some sort of video game as a tie-in??

If I were running it, and keeping the DIsney mindset, and they wanted to keep it free, I would either use a free to play, pay to be fabulous model that sells some cards/special video. Or go for the standard of a social media tie in that promotes it on your FB/Twitter/etc. accounts while at the same time gleaning information off of them to sell to you later though that would require you be like 14 to play (or have a parent's consent).

Well I just hope it stays free long enough for me to get down there for my college program and get as many cards for free before they start charging! :P :goofy:

From what I'm hearing, they plan to expand this. Both by more spell cards and places. Keep in mind, this isn't in Tomorrowland at all and there are rumors that they will expand Fantasyland into the expansion (Hope it's true. Hate being denied hours before Wishes).

Doing some research and it looks like they close SotMK one hour before park close. Don't know if that means the fire station on Main Street, counter/podium in Liberty Square and the windows/portals or just the fire station, counter/podium or the windows/portals themselves. Seeing as how the park is closing a lot later than usual (spring break most likely the reason, although not here, yet) we'll try and figure that out, possible Tuesday and have an update afterward.

I think it depends on the level everyone is on. The people ahead of me at my portals I visited last week were on higher levels than me so they saw different scenarios.

The lines are annoying, I will say.... I think they need a better way to stagger this. I almost think the thing they do with Kim Possible, having a FP-type thing with return time to start would be a better way to balance it all out.

I wonder if one of the biggest design flaws they have (the lines and possible lack of AI) is that they didn't use anyone who designed arcade games... mostly because they don't exist anymore.

The regulars still don't know what spells work best on hard. There's got to be a system as all the spells have different stat numbers for the spell they cast (like the card games Magic, Pokemon, etc.), each character has a certain type of spell (hero, mystic, animal, toy, warrior, princess, monster, fairy and machine) but each of those spells is a different spell as well (i.e. Aurora, Snow White, Mulan, Belle, Cinderella and Tiana are all princess spells but they are all different types of spells [Tiana - Gross, Cinderella - Wishful, Snow White - Charming, etc.]). Sooner or later someone will figure this out and enlighten others (I hope!!).

Lordy, once you figure it out, you'll have to teach me... because I'm afraid I won't be doing it all correctly the higher up I go. Going to go play some more later and see what I can do- it's raining here at the house so I'm hoping it's raining in the parks to get rid of some of the people.

Have fun ~ even if there are lots of people at the parks, I doubt they will be standing around to play SoTMK, so you should be good to go :D

Just be careful with your cards. One of our Merlins got wet (don't know how) and now the system won't accept the spell.
