My trip to WDW

Post by figmentaholic » Feb Tue 28, 2012 7:36 pm

So I got back from WDW last week. The reason it took me this long to post was because unfortunately I brought back a cold that turned into acute bronchitis and sinusitis. :( But when you are around that many people, I guess it shouldn't be too surprising.

So I wont really do a long blow by blow play by play. We were there from Sunday the 12th till Sunday the 19th. Unfortunately that means that we were there on President's Day, and at the MK. I had said that it was a bad idea, but I was overruled. I only stayed with our group. There were four of us. Jon was the leader, my husband and I, and the 4th was a semi local friend from Melbourne.

Overall it was a really fun trip. I do have some regrets. My first one was that I actually didn't get to Fantasyland to see all the construction and take pictures. The other regret was that I didn't get to see the MSEP. I got to do pretty much everything else that I wanted to. Oh yeah, and I still haven't seen Obama at the Hall of Presidents yet.

Some of the highlights:

I got a Dole Whip... twice. :) Once orange swirl (OMG Dreamsicle) and one pineapple swirl.

Got to ride Journey. (But I was VERY DISAPPOINTED at the lack of new Figment stuff, that is the first time I have EVER gone in there and not bought anything.)

I got to sit for the whole Cosmic Ray's Sonny Eclipse show. Love it.

Two of the seven days we were there, two friends of mine from Jacksonville joined us. Thanks to them, I now TOTALLY have the pin trading bug. Before I would just buy (mostly Figment) pins, but now I see how fun it is to actually trade Of course I will mostly trade for Figment stuff, but there were other pins I was interested in as well. So what I did was I got a lot of 25 pins from Ebay (yes a reputable dealer) I found a couple I wanna keep (there is a cool orange monorail one and a pirate flag) but I have at least 20 pins for next year. There were *SO* many Figment pins that I couldn't trade for cause I had nothing to trade... not next year!

Oh man, I forgot how yummy Liberty Tree Tavern is. We haven't eaten there the last couple of years. That is one of the best "all you can eat" options in the MK.

About that that last paragraph, I have a PSA.... THE DINING OPTION IS AWESOME. As I mentioned before, we go every year, and we arrange the trip through a friend who is a travel agent. This is the first year that we did the dining option. I can tell you right now that it saved us HUNDREDS of dollars, and was not much of a price increase from last year.
I understand that there are some that it wont work for, people going solo, people with specific food issues (though I think Disney is supposed to be REALLY good about helping with that) But I am telling you that the choices are so much better than they were when it first started, and I was *NEVER* hungry. (An FYI if you dont know, you get one counter service, one sit down and one full meal) We didn't have any full meals left cause we did some character meals and most of those count as two meals. But we had a couple of sit downs and a few counter services left. And even with that, it was still so very worth it.

So, I guess that's about it. I kinda hate that I was using my friend Jon's Eye-Fi memory card. I have no pics of my own, he has them all, though in theory I can get them from his website, they should have all been automatically updated there.

Cant wait to her what you guys have to say.. questions, comments for or again the dining option or pin trading, etc. :) I hope you liked the kinda brief trip report! If you guys want more info I can certainly post more specifically what we did (mmmm O'Hana at the Polynesian. Yummy.)

Sounds like you had fun. Was it terribly crowded on President's Day? Was it super crowded in by Sonny Eclipse??
I would love to see some photos if you can get them on here somehow!

I didn't see Sonny Eclipse on President's Day. We went to MK the first full day we were there (13th) and that was when we are there, so no, it was not crowded then..

But on Presidents Day? yes. It was SUPER crowded. so much so, it was our last full day, I wasn't feeling well and I was tired and I didn't feel like braving crowds.. so I actually broke away from the group and spent a few hours alone at Downtown Disney, which was the break I needed.

I will head to his site tonight and see what I can find to steal back :) anything in particular you want pics of? cause for the most part, i was just shooting pretty much everything.

well my problem is that I am pretty picky about the pins I wanna keep. I would say outside this lot of pins I just bought 95% of my pins are Figment ones, and the few that aren't had some personal significance- someone bought it for me, or the pin I got for the year of a million dreams, etc.
So I dunno if I could find 50 pins that went figment that I would wanna keep hehe.

I didn't care for it once I tried one a couple years ago. The Dole Whip was like Ohana for me ~ the company was better than the whip or the food!
Are you going to try one when you go soon?

Possibly. If I have an opportunity to try one. I really want to try alot of new things this time around, as I've made it my goal to try the food window at the Morocco pavilion (the menu sounded awesome)
