Those are lucky folks! I've stayed at wdw a number of times but never received an upgrade (even though we typically go at off-peak times) so I think if I want to stay in one of these rooms I'd better upgrade myself.

Never, in all the years I've traveled with my girls, including 3 trips to Disney, have they ever been excited about our hotel room. They notice when it's a nice room, or get excited about the pool (although not lately, the pool means work to them), and they REALLY notice if mom makes an "oops" and doesn't get a very nice place to stay. But the room has never been the high point. I can't fathom justifying paying that much more for a room decorated a certain way. **braces for impact of rapid-fire objections**

The parks are the same way. Some people think of Soarin', Test Track, and Mission Space when they hear "Epcot"...while others think about their favorite WS country to visit. It's all a matter of perspective. Like...for some people...their WDW vacation starts when they get in their car or board the plane...others only "begin" their vacation once they are on Disney property.

DW and I stayed at OKW and BLT on our last vacation...and I would say we enjoyed our resorts almost as much as we did the parks. Being able to walk around the resorts and soak in all of the "plus-ing" done was priceless. A small thing like making sure our OKW room was near a quiet pool was a big deal to us because we knew we wanted to spend one morning laying out by the pool to recharge before going to the parks later in the day.

Right, I totally agree with what everyone is saying. I taylor my resort to the type of trip I'll be taking. If it's a three day weekend and I know I'll be at the parks a lot, I will stay at Pop Century since I won't be in the room or resort that much, since then it doesn't justify paying extra for a moderate or deluxe. If I'm not doing the parks commando style and really want to relax at the resort, then I will pay more for moderate or deluxe since I'll have time to enjoy the extra amenities. That's when I think I would pay to stay in a special room, like the royal rooms, for a night or two - on one of those trips.

My family wasn't that way until AKL... now that my mom has had a taste of the Deluxe side of things, she cares more about the resort. Oh and Epcot. She will forever put Epcot above the other parks and at times the resort. Yep, that's my mom, and I'm proud she shares my love for that park.

The last family tonight was telling me they are planning on going to Disney for spring break. The dad was teasing the oldest, a boy of 12, that he wants to stay in the princess room I looked and him and said, "Really?!" all innocent like. He was horrified that I thought his dad was being honest
I'll be curious to see where they stay as the dad did say he had seen the new rooms and might be interested in them if they stay on property. He hasn't been since college and his kids have never been. I offered nanny services, but I doubt they'll take me up on the offer ~ shoot

I'm sure they won't. The kids are 9 and 12 so they don't really need any help. Plus they are kind of naughty ~ shhhhh!
