Well if you win the lottery you don't have to work there you can just buy a house within 5 minutes of the gates and either live there or vacation there. Or just become a top DVC member and just travel from park to park. You can tell I have thought about this for a while.

Yeah, I'd like to go back to Disney but the pay sucks. I'll probably work there after I retire.

Oh my gosh . . . that would be so cool! I still think I'd like to try to work there - especially as a CM in one of the deluxe resorts.

Since I was old enough to walk (ok maybe not that young..ha ha) I've wanted to work for DL. But then I was thinking the other day, working there or playing there and not having to deal with the public (on that level anyway) and just being able to do what you want when you are there, I opt for playing and buying an annual pass...ha ha ha kinda like when I passed all the tests to become a correctional officer in So. Cal, then got a call that I was accepted at Alaska Airlines, it was like guard 2000 prisoners or deal with 100+ passengers per flight, I took the passengers on instead. But deep down I would still like to work at DL, like Sub said maybe when I retire, instead of being a greeter at Wal Mart, I will be a greeter at DL :D though it looks like Wal Mart pays better :?

That's the point of working there after you're retired. You're not concerned with how much you'll be making.

I was house hunting at celebration one year, and meet a pair of very nice old ladies who were doing the same. One word led to another and found they were retired, and fly south every year to work at WDW for accouple of months. One lady wispered in my ear so my kids could not hear. She spoke of the other lady who was probably only four foot tall. She told me to look at her hat. The hat had a bunch of tradeing pins all over it. I thought to myself, I would have a collection like that if I work at WDW. The lady continued, she is every character on that hat. WOW! What a great job, I thought. How cool it would be to see smiling faces all day long. Now when I see the smaller characters@ WDW, I wonder how she is doing.

So true. Right now my thinking mode is "show me the money"..ha ha so by retirement it will probably switch to "show me the Geritol" speaking only for myself at retirement age, not anyone else!

What a sweet experience. You never know what you'll find out once you take the time to talk to people. :D We met a very nice family while on vacation to WDW and started to talk to them and found out we don't live that far apart! It is a small world!

What's a good job in the Parks or orther locations to have?
Varies based upon your interests and talents. I loved SCUBA diving at the Seas, but to be considered for DiveQuest, you will need to be a DiveMaster or Instructor. I had friends that did horticulture, serving, operations (rides), and costuming.

Whats the average pay?
Depends upon type of position, more technical positions that require unique or hard skill sets earn more pay.

What benefits/perks are available?
Fringe benefits include park admission, discounts on food and merchandise.

How do you go about getting a job in WDW? (407) 828-1000

Regards,
Aaron

Go for your divemaster or instructor status..its not that hard or that many classes and well worth the time.

Rich,

I have been a PADI DiveMaster for almost 12 years. I was a Scientific Dive Intern at the Seas June 95- Jan 96. The cast test "beta" of what would eventually be Epcot DiveQuest started at the end of July 95. We had put an ad in the Eyes & Ears for 48 open slots, there were 700 responses on the first day. I heard there were enough voicemail messages left for the reservations office that the program was full even before reservations opened that monring. I was part of the Cast test and helped work the video editing system on Day 1 of DiveQuest. My problem was that when college was over, I moved to Texas (hmmm... Divemaster for ~8/hr or be an engineer for substantially more than that). Disney dropped all the DiveQuest CT's in 2001. So I worked at the Seas officially from 1995-2001.

Aaron

Aaron.... sweeeet :D

from your other post I though you were just starting to dive. Boy was I wrong

lol

I've been a PADI Divemaster for about 10 years now, altough I have not actively dove in the last few years. :( I too gave up a career in Marine Bio for a tech position..for the pay.

Sounds like the epcot gig was a cool one. I did my divequest dive during your tenure, maybe we dove together and didn't know it.. How funny would that be.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Rich,

Sorry for the confusion, I was trying to indicate that certain positions may have training/certification requirements to be considered as opposed to Disney training you for the position.

If you have your dive log, let me know the date and I will check my log. We can figure out if we dove together.

My degrees are in Ocean Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Ended up as a LabVIEW programmer, go figure.

Aaron

Ok i was cleaning up the other day and found the tape of my Dive Quest tour. The date was January 7th 1997. So it looks like we just missed each other. Still cool though.
