New Test Track?

Post by cy1229 » Jan Fri 06, 2012 10:05 am

Saw this during my morning wake-up:

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2 ... Q2FBDM0141

Do you think Test Track will close to make this change? I mean, it obviously will have to close at least a short while. I hope it is open in Oct when we go,this is one of our favorites.

Thoughts?

Test Track is closing. No word on when it will reopen but the rumblings are Fall 2012.

I just read this:

http://www.insidethemagic.net/2012/01/d ... -at-epcot/ and it sounds to me that they're changing it into a simulated ride. BUMMER. SERIOUS BUMMER. I don't like simulated rides (except for Soarin') because try as they might, it's just not the same as the real thing.

From that link...it looks like you will create a sim car...then hop in the ride vehicle...and depending on how you setup the sim car...the ride will react differently. Then it looks like it is the post-show area that will be the simulation of what you created + the ride. Maybe that's just how I am seeing it.

That's what I am seeing too. There were quite a few comments on the "simulated" vs "real" car and all the Disney answers indicated a "real" car still. I hope they do take into mind the handicapped accessibility that someone brought up. F1gment has never ridden since she can't maneuver down into and back out of the cars :( Looks like a good 6 month rehab or so though. Good thing ~ it needs it!

My guess is that the ride itself isn't going to change much, there will be visual changes but the track itself won't change and the pacing may not change either.

Yeah, it will be interesting. I imagine a lot of the "simulation" will be via the on-board, hopefully updated, display screen?

I love the ride as it is today...but I also know it could use a good refurb.

I like the attraction as it is too, but a lot of the elements are definitely showing the wear and tear of the passing years...

Nope. The track itself is staying and most of the rest is changing (line/pre-show and post-show).

They might be taking the tech from the DCA version as well (such as the ways to simulate being in a race).

the way i read it, the simulated bits would be aerodynamics, suspension, ride height, you know things that can be simulated in a three axis simulator, like the ctx's...

That would be cool!
I wonder how it will work with the designing though - they wouldn't send car out with only 2 or 4 people would they? But otherwise they would be sending people on rides they didn't design :?

I have a feeling they might not do that using the 3 axis system, but rather effects outside the car. Suspension is already done with with stuff on the tracks, aerodynamics would be outside the car, but ride height might use a single axis system (just like rocket rods!).

Given american's rate of expansion, it may be 2-4 rider cars in a few years. :D

Outside ride effects for sure. The refurbished vehicles have already been running on the track since late Aug. The actual track and cars will be the same. It seems like the exterior effects are what will change along with the queue an pre show. It seems like the post show will remain the same with cars on display. The huge difference is that sponsorship is changing from GM to Chevy... Same company but now with a more direct focus to one line.
