I never got to watch the fireworks, but I do remember seeing electrical parade from above, which was very nice.

WDW was also having problems with unruly guests on the Skyway. Riders were more and more throwing things down on guests. Like a few others said, the biggest issue was any related liability.

That figures! I don't really recall anything happening like that, but I can imagine it happened.

It's really sad to say, but honestly, I'd be scared if the Skyway was still operating today. With the lack of respect people have these days, who knows what sort of havoc would run amok???? (AMOK!!!! Amok, amok, amok....)

Sad but true. There would probably be a lot of spitting :(

yup, been closed QUITE a while... the fantasyland station is in the final demo phase... and you are right, an expanded restroom facility is going there, and will remove most of the duck pond out front of the station... its down to the steel structural members(the terminal that is)

That's really sad, because there is a perfectly good restroom facility across the way behind Peter Pan. I would have much rather they left the terminal (and pond) in place and turned it into something else.

I'm trying to recall, but with DLR there may have been a secondary problem. This was right about the time that ADA stuff became mandatory (with exceptions in some cases) and aside from neither station being wheelchair capable. On top of that if the ride were to break down and require rescue by the fire dept (which had happened in the past) they would need to be able to climb.

Yes, I know that Walt didn't want the parks to become museums and be ever evolving places of enjoyment. I'm not saying that it should have remained a relic of the past, but repurpose it for something better than a crapper. And keep the water feature, far too many water features are disappearing from the parks. And that doesn't mean we need to replace them with "water works."

Thank you, I do remember the pavilions marked as such. I am fortunate to be old enough to have fond memories of EPCOT Center.

I do know a CM was killed when it accidentally turned on and knocked him off the platform, and it closed shortly thereafter.

That is sad. One would think that they would have considered this possibility and installed some sort of fail safe.
Safety manager: So you know this Skyway attraction we have? Basically it's a large free-swinging object that shoots out of an opening into free space, and we ask our employees to stand in front of this "wrecking ball" and sweep the platform. Perhaps we need to install some sort of safety equipment to protect our employees?

Fat-cat number cruncher: Um, I don't think we need to do that, nothing will happen. There is no way an accident can happen.

Safety manager: but sir...

Fat-cat number cruncher:...end of conversation.

I think they may have just used the death as a final straw for WDW. They would probably never close a ride and blame it on guest behavior because it looks bad from the outside since only a small percentage of riders caused problems.
