I personally LOVED Pleasure Island the way it was back in the early 2000's. It was a nice place for the adult crowd to go and "party" a bit. I realize that it had its share of issues, and that Disney has plans for the area...but on a Friday or Saturday night it was nice to be able to go out, have a few drinks, dance a bit at Manaquins or 8Trax, go to the Adventurers Club and have a laugh. Since PI closed, I find that I am not at Downtown Disney as much as I was before. I used to go have dinner and then go out for the evening alot when it was open....now I find that I tend to just go back to the hotel and have dinner there and relax.

I wonder if DTD being somewhat difficult or time consuming to get to and from was part of the problem? If guests don't want to wait for extended periods of time for the buses they may just pass on it.

Then they would have closed down all of DTD not just PI. Sure some stuff from Westside and The Marketplace have closed but they have been replaced or will be in the future. PI has had some work done and that has stopped.

BTW, they've removed all the props from Adventurers Club as well as all the signs from AC, bet soundstage and Comedy Warehouse within the last week.

I found Pleasure Island to be a bit on the seedy and trashy side the few times I went. I am not the typical club-goer, party-hardy person though so perhaps that was just my impression. I just didn't think it meshed well with the Disney image. The Adventurer's Club was different...

But there is a difference, other than Disney Quest and select stores/dining all the rest of those spots are leased out so the establishments have to do the work to get people interested.

Sorry I meant to have PI in that mix, disney does own all the clubs on PI (which is why they are so tame)

You mean were right? The clubs haven't been open for years and two of them (Rock and Roll Beach Club and Motions) have been demolished.

Same difference, the clubs within the PI property are operated by Disney, which is probably why their standards are different.

Speaking of, was every show at the comedy club for "8 PM crowds", as in nothing that extreme and the rules for the performers were strict?

Don't know. I mostly just went to the Adventurers Club.

UPDATE: The future plans for Hyperion Wharf may be dead in the water but the updates to the Downtown Disney AMC are full steam ahead. Remember those seats from the pictures I posted from the preview of the Dine-In theaters? Well it looks like every theater is set to get them. They were working on the ETX (AMC's version of IMAX) theater a few weeks ago and are still working on all of the theaters in the hallway closest to the House of Blues side entrance.

Every review I have seen of the dine-in theater has been mostly positive. Sounds like the food is good and people enjoy being able to eat a full meal while watching a movie.

Indeed. We've been twice since the preview and have not had a negative experience either time. Service is getting better as well as the food.

Update: The hallway I mentioned earlier is done. Now they are working on theaters 11, 14 - 18. And I must say, the seats and new carpet are great. Something new that we've noticed is that they now assign letters to each row in all the theaters. Nice touch. It can get busy depending on the movie and if you leave the theater for whatever reason during the movie, finding which row you were in was a pain in the butt!!!

Maybe it's just me, but I will never go to a movie on a vacation at WDW. We do things at WDW that we can't do at home, like go to the parks, eat at the parks and visit the beautiful resorts. I would however go to Pleasure Island again, listening to live music or a comedy show used to be a fun "other" thing to do after the parks in the evening.
