Fire at the Astro-Orbiter

Post by cousininmiami » Oct Sun 09, 2011 10:28 am

Apparently there is some kind of a fire at the Astro Orbiter in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom!! Reports are that Tomorrowland has been evacuated. Hoping nobody got hurt, and all will be OK. Also hoping that The Peoplemover is not affected, it's my favorite ride and I will be there in 2 months!

Nothing in the local news about it, which has me leaning to nothing bad happening. Local news would have been all over this if there was a fire. Remember Tiki Room UNM?

A bit odd to have another fire so soon...

I'm not a big Astro Orbiter fan, except for the fact that it's original to WDW and I would not like to see it become an "extinct attraction". But I am huge Peoplemover fan, and I would be very upset if something happened to it! Hoping all is OK.

Latest reports from the scene say that it looks like Tomorrowland will re-open later today. They’ve begun testing the Peoplemover again.

Whew ~ thanks for the link. I can see why they would evacuate if they had to bring emergency vehicles on stage. Glad it was minor and no one was seriously injured. That could be bad having a fire on an elevated platform. I've never noticed, but they must have stairs as well as elevators to bring guests down from the Astro Orbiter correct?

Do u think that it's just only a rumour? Because if there is actually a fire in WDW, then surely it would be on the news or somethin.

I'm still checking. So far I'm being told it was something very minor.

It was a very minor fire that happened at 9:30am this morning with no guests up on the platform. Tomorrowland was reopened about an hour after the incident.

I wonder if someone put in the wrong wattage lightbulb? I would have thought they have a lot of LED or CFL bulbs in the parks...

You've never noticed because the evac doors are all in the "tunnels" of TTA (Stitch, Space, Buzz/Monsters). Unfortunately, if you are stuck in the middle of the track, you have to walk all the way to the nearest door and there are no elevators for TTA only the Astro Orbiter.

I wouldn't mind having to walk along to evac. I would probably mind not being able to stop every few feet to take photos though :(
