Extra Magic Hour Question

Post by reiki1 » Sep Wed 28, 2011 3:12 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know if the restaurants extend their hours of service in the parks during Extra Magic Hours? Also, will the booths still be serving during the Food & wine festival during EMH in EPCOT?

During the night, if I recall, the sit down places (may vary by place too) were open but they were in their final seating so new guests would not be accomodated. Some stands were open, but I can't help with the stalls for the festival.

Thanks. I guess I will have to find out when I get there. I already have reservations but I was considering altering them now that I have seen the park hours. I will report out once I am down there.

Yeah, you may want to contact the places directly and ask when their final seating for the night is, some may have to cut it back as much as an hour+ before park closing so that you're out of the park in a reasonable time.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess the food stalls would not be open during EMH. I think Wizz is right, you might want to check directly with restaurants when their last seating is. I really doubt they are open later during EMH either. I remember there was only one or two food stands open during EMH's at DHS when we were there in December because I had to get some juice for F1gment and I had to go to several places before I found one open. They do have what is open listed on a sheet that you can pick up as you enter each park...unfortunately I didn't know that at the time.

As far as I know the sit down places did not stay open late from mid-late Aug. There is one or two quick service locations that will stay open late for the EMH. Dining at the parks is one of the toughest things to do once the normal hours pass.

So true. Last February, we had ate a late lunch, so we didn't end up hungry for supper until it was EMH at MK. We were in Adventureland and had to walk nearly all the way across the park before we found something that was open - Cosmic Ray's. We were looking for quick service, but I don't remember seeing table services open then either. Plus, the EMHs are the best times at the park - less crowded and sooooo much cooler - we try not to "waste" that time by sitting around eating!
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

When you ask, be sure to ask when they close and when their last seating is. I made the mistake once while traveling for work and ended up having to eat at the hotel.

I know Epcot restaurants take their last sitting at around 10.45pm on EMH nights but the other parks, no clue.

To my knowledge, Epcot is the only park that extends restaurant hours with EMH. On nights with the Studios are open late (10p or later) I believe the Dine-In, Brown Derby and Prime Time restaurants seat people until around 9:45.
No one's gloomy or complaining while the flatware's entertaining.

That might be the case for regular hours though during peak season. Once EMH kicks in at the Studios the restaurants are shut. I recall from our last trip that MK had the Friar's Nook, Cosmic Rays, Bakery, and Ice Cream. It's a long walk from Adventureland to any place that has food. Pecos Bills I thought used to be open late but it wasn't when we walked around the park.

I was curious because there is one night during my stay that EPCOT will be open late and since it is during the Food and Wine festival it would have been nice to do the desserts and wine (or some of the other things) later and then go one a few rides.

You might want to call and ask. The food and wine stuff may be like the other festivals they put on though. They open after the parks do and may close up shop early too.

I'd definitely have to agree with the "call and ask" statements. We were not able to detect any patterns on any of our EMH experiences in the last few years. It seems like it's basically hit or miss with most of them. I will say, though, that the nicer "sit-downs" usually do not stay open any later. It's the quick-serves that will sometimes extend their service during EMH. For example, I remember specifically that Cosmic Ray's was the only place that stayed open last time we had EMH at MK. Of course, I don't remember making it a point to check out every possible place, so it may very well be that a few others were open... but there again, it just means that you have to check it out yourself ahead of time.
