I have friends who go glamping (think old school safari style camping where it's the 4 seasons but you are in the wild and your massive room is still there but it's now a giant tent) and they tried to claim they were roughing it.
...is "roughing it" to them not being able to get wi-fi for their laptop and only getting one bar, not two, on 3G instead of 4G for their iphone?

I never saw river country, was it nice in it's day? We have also never been to Blizzard beach or typhoon Lagoon. Coming from a different part of the country, there are water parks in just about every state. The Disney theme parks are unique and thats where we spend our time because there is no other place anywhere like Disney. Seeing videos and pictures of Disney"s water parks show that they are probably the best water parks around. But coming from up north, the theme parks are for us.

Isnt that area not too far from where the 4 Seasons resort is going in? or have they moved the location?

Wow I hadn't heard about that one:

That's a pretty prime location, and it seems to be a done deal. I don't see what DW gains by adding this that they don't already have, or why anyone would stay here when they could just do one of the Disney resorts. Walt never would have stood for this.

The same goes for us. I figure we probably would have ended up going to one of the water parks if we had gone when we were younger, but as a grown-up with no kids, the waterparks don't hold much draw for me.

Actually, they still had full service and teather for internet. You always need to update your facebook status when in the wild. :D Kind of like how there are people who have an army of RVs take them to burning man so they can see the poor people and the artists but still have electricity and running water.

Regarding the four seasons, I think the original purpose was to cater to people who might go to WDW or not. It's located in the golden oak gated community (multi-million dollar homes that will probably sell for hundreds of thousands since the orlando housing market is one of the most depressed in the nation) and it may be more suited to people visiting firends/family that live in golden oak or those looking to play golf more than go to the parks.

It would probably be akin to the Las Vegas Four Seasons where it's totally removed from the WDW experience as a means of setting it apart from everyone else and also as a place to "recharge" (the vegas one is one of the few hotels that has no gambling on site).

Sharonofwindham wrote:I definitely think they should and will rebuild it eventually. It would definitely make a great themed "pool" area for Ft. Wilderness. It's sort of a joke, this huge campground, two little nothing pools and you can't swim in the lake anymore, when all the other resorts have themed pools! What is the #1 recreational activity when you go camping? Yeah, swimming  Get your act together Disney, and clean up that mess!
Ft. Wilderness is a joke anyway but after working there and hating it of course I say that. No one in charge knows how to run the place, a trained monkey could do better. They DO need a themed pool area, I agree- the pools they have are practically the size of my bathtub.

It is one of the cheapest and oldest resorts to stay at, right? It must be worthwhile to keep open considering how many resorts opened afterwards.

I can't see the economics are there to refurb River Country. They can more revenues generated from larger guest volumes out of projects like the Fantasyland Expansion or Star Tours 2.0. There are probably other projects they could dream up in the future too that would better revenue generators than River Country refurb.

For sure, it is too far out of date and the theme is also out of line with the other examples.

I just looked at it from google maps (never been) and I am actually surprised it was so close to other recreations as well. I saw the photos that someone took of it, I think that might be the guy that got banned for life.

The basic RV hookups are cheap. The cabins are not, I can testify to that. You can get better camping deals for cheaper at a million spots in Orlando. I'm terribly sorry to be negative but working there soured my opinion on the place badly even though I've stayed there.

Ah, but are the cabins larger than the normal hotel rooms (as in actual cabins)? You're not really being negative, if it's a bad place it's better to know it than lie, unless you get off on that sort of thing. :D

I was looking up that brain eating amoeba problem and it sounds like it is a realistic problem/reason to shut down since it likes the warmer water created by the lower water levels.

Yes, I read a story about a young man dying from that this past summer some place down south. I'm glad I only swim in lakes in Maine!

Apparently in on state, I think Texas, they mulled shutting down all lakes since it was plausable that every one of them was harboring the parasite, but had to abandon the plan since they had no means of enforcing it on private lakes.

Ft. Wilderness is amazing in the way that you can go from a crowded theme park, to a "natural", quiet environment, and sort of get away from it all, and still have that Disney feel :mickey3: . I think camping at WDW isn't intended for people that want to rough it in the wilds of nature  . Alot of people can't afford the HUGE expence of the other resorts but still want a Disney experience. They deserve it just as much as those staying at the other resorts. Besides have you seen the prices for a nightly stay on a meeger tent sight at FW  ? YIKES! They deserve a cool pool too :goofy_bounce:
