Deffinatly, some of the scenes really need to be updated. Ofcourse to do that they have to use another 360 camera system which is difficult to find or even build so it looks right.G2-4T wrote: Canada is getting outdated in a lot of city scenes - it is showing its age... China kept some of the best parts and updated the rest, something like that for Canada would be great.

I saw the China movie for the first time a few weeks ago and thought it was great. I just loved the music-the combination of western classical with traditional Chinese-especially when used to emphasize particular scenes. For instance, when the narrator is in the caves and says something to the effect of "the same forces that shaped these caves created the mountains above us" or something like that. Then the camera shoots to a scene of the mountains with the music coming in much stronger. Hmm, now that I think of it I can certainly understand why a younger person would not enjoy this movie as much. I also definitely agree that it's a bummer that you have to stand the whole time!

Yeah ther has been alot of rumors about the Wonders of Life. Some say just a rehab other a complete rework of the pavillion. I'll have to to do some research and see what I can dig up!Cheshire Cat wrote:My grandparents went down over the summer (April? May? June?) and they told me they saw a huge crane behind Wonders of Life, and as usual it was closed. I've also heard rumors that a whole new pavillion is on the drawing board.

I've heard that's where the new coaster is going and that the entire building will be scrapped. I don't know what it's about or anything of the sort, but it's rumored to be along the lines of what they were going to do inside SE and scrapped due to the Seiman's sponsorship. I hope to find out some information when we go in March - that area of the park is pretty dead.

Coaster...hmm I haven't heard that rumor. I have heard about a coaster for spaceship earth, but those seem to have been scraped with siemens coming in. I guess they are shooting for a coaster in everypark. I don't mind the coasters, i love to ride them, but they shouldn't depend on them.Mickeymac wrote:I've heard that's where the new coaster is going and that the entire building will be scrapped. Pretty sad if they are just falling into the trap of "hey look, they're doing it so we should too" with a mega-coaster in every park. Doesn't seem to really fit for Epcot - at least the versions we've seen rumors about, esp. those that gut traditional time-tested rides. It's all about being imaginative and innovative - not just copying the latest trends that may or may not be alive in 5-10 years. That is what Walt started it all for, to be different and create something new. Ok - calming down, not getting my usual don't-mess-with-Epcot rant started here
Another rumor, behind Canada there is space, I heard at one point a GRR-style water ride based on the Canadian Rockies at one point [recently] was being considered. That would be neat to see - and no doubt welcome in the hot summers. And done right it could block the view of the hangers...

I'm not sure if it is the imagineers or the people higher up - they call the shots, allot funds, ok projects, etc. I think the creative talent is still there [see EE] but the people in charge just aren't willing to pay or to take any chances at all. And when they do take the occational chance they tend to screw it up [think Imagination or Rocket Rods]. They want "new and improved" when "old and traditional - and actually functional" is doing just fine...

I'd like to know why the imagineers feel the need to "improve" things that are fine the way they are.
Also, is it true that the Imagination pavillion was remodeled ue to the contract with Kodak? I read somewhere that the original ride and building costed a fortune to upkeep and Kodak knew it, so after x amount of years they wanted it changed to a less expensive attraction.

I agree.... but it looks like the imagineers are catching alot of flack here. I would probably say its not the imaginees, but probably the bean counters and marketing guys. Heard many a stories that tell how some amazing things the imagineers can come up with only to have it change by people in suits. Overall I think the imagineers have done a pretty good job, and seem to have done some nice work with Everest. Also with the Disney/Pixar deal, Lasseter gets a say in the theme park ride designs.G2-4T wrote:I'm not sure if it is the imagineers or the people higher up - they call the shots, allot funds, ok projects, etc. I think the creative talent is still there [see EE] but the people in charge just aren't willing to pay or to take any chances at all. We also have to realized that we as disney fans are a custom to the best. It's very hard to maintain that level of execellence.
ok i put my 2 cents in
