Main Street Electrical Parade VS. Spectromagic?

If you've ever heard the original Kingsley-Perrey version, it's quite amazing how much both versions sound EXACTLY alike. Disney didn't take too much liberties with it...

I remember at one time really wanting MSEP to come back to WDW. There were rumors and the years went by. It's been so long now SM has won a special place in my heart . I would love to see MSEP for old time sake though!

Well, its MSEP...and its not. It's not WDW's original MSEP. That version was shorter, and was moved to Euro Disney/DLP and then onto HKDL. WDW version's actually DCA's "Electrical Parade" (and the former DL's MSEP) from DLR. They swapped out the lead for the parade by taking out the Blue Fairy and replacing it with Tinkerbell float tied to a straight-to-DVD release. Also, the music is not the original Don Dorsey version but a more modernized version that was composed simultaneously with TDL's Electrical Parade Dreamlights...

...so its more like a similiar parade but not the parade you experienced years ago originally at WDW.

Well, with Spectromagic, we did change out Roger Rabbitt with the Genie from Aladdin due to some lawsuits at the time concerning the rights to the character. Also, they have changed out the faces to the Spectromen and some feel the current version looked a bit creepy compared to the originals. No music has changed. Be honest, I wouldn't mind if they did do an update to Spectromagic. I don't know why, but all WDW parades are shorter than the electrical parades at other parks. When I saw MSEP back in Dec 2010 at WDW, I noticed that the DCA Electrical Parade from DLR has had the entire circus set of floats with Dumbo dropped from the line-up now that it is at WDW.

Where is Spectro running now? I would be interested in seeing the latest incarnation of the spectromen. They never creeped me out other than I am not a fan of clowns and they reminded me of clowns.

Spectro isn't running anywhere worldwide, at the moment. It's not even being listed as refurbishment either. There are those that say it's getting a refurbishment during its time away from MK, but there's nothing out of Disney to confirm that...

Was WDW the last place it was? So the MSEP replaced Spectro? Maybe it will be shipped to the new park in China?

HKDL already has the DLP MSEP (which was WDW originally expanded with some from TDL's EP). Spectromagic has only been exclusively WDW up until now. Who knows? Maybe once DCA expansion is complete, they could move Spectromagic out there to either DCA or DL MK.

No, not Hong Kong, Shanghai...

Shanghai - if it's still moving forward - has a totally different plan and layout for a theme park. It will not be the traditional magic kingdom layout, and other than a vague artist conception Disney has kept a tight lid about the details concerning Disneyland Shanghai in fear their competitors might steal their ideas...

A version of MSEP might not fit into their plans for this park.

I voted MSEP. I love them both, but I'm still freaked out a bit by the zombie doll faces on the trumpet players at the beginning of Spectro.

The MSEP is the best of the best parades. I do think it's a good idea to change them up every now and then.

After I originally posted this question I've since thought you're probably right on! Spectro has indeed won a special place in my heart and I've recently found myself missing it. We'll be there in a few weeks and I wish I could see Spectro!
