I want to move to Florida

I so have to move to FLA!!

LOL Rich! My husband and I were toying with that idea. These NH winters are just getting to me, but when I see the price of property in FL, it's kind of an eye opener. Even worse are the taxes!!!

OK, back to the thread, I can't wait to hear your trip report!

Wha? You mean sales tax? Because, thanks to tourism, there isn't any State taxes. And property is DEFINITELY not expensive down here, depending on where you want to live. In communities and subdivisions it's typically a lot more (like golf communities), but other than that it's not too bad at all! Just stay away from the downtown area of Orlando and you should be fine!

Matt, it's just a matter of time for us, too. My health is not the greatest in the winter and it's getting hard on me. (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!) You're from New England too - I'm concerned I will miss the hills and scenery up here. What area are you looking at?

You will. Passionately. Even madly. Disney is really the only thing that manages to teather me here... well that and my wife's good paying job. I can't stand the summers, and, at least up until Christmas, I really miss cold and snow. I'm not much of a beach person, nor do I like tourists (I've lived in NYC, Cape Cod, Denali, and Denver... all susceptible to the whims of tourism). But MAN, I love Disney. As long as I continue to do so, I can deal with the rest of the crap.

We are looking to move down in a few years too, and one thing I also worry about is the FLAT. We are in SE Ohio in the foothills of the mountains and I just am not used to be able to see that far. We are looking to move to Lake county for that reason. At least it has a few hills, but we will be a bit farther away from Disney than I would like. I'm trying to convince myself that an hour away is still okay.

Orlando, duh!

I don't mind the winter as much as I can't stand Floridian summers. It's unbearably hot there.

I saw an article that Lakeland (which is fairly close to WDW) is one of the fastest growing cities that has cheap homes

That dives me insane! I need to see hills within a few miles or I grit my teeth! I don't even look outside on the drive through Florida because...well..there's nothing to see - for miles!

I live in Philly and when we go to the Shore for the day, weekend, or whatever you have to drive through south Jersey, which is a baron featurless wasteland (not that bad but you get the idea this way). But the Key is remember what is at the other end the shore, or in this case DISNEY WORLD

yeah, but have you priced the taxes? It's ridiculous.

My MIL lives near West Palm, so if we go, it would be down that way. I adore her to pieces, and her parents, and I would want to be near. Land is expensive there, too. I thought it was bad around here, until I started looking there.

I am actively seeking a place down there. We have been looking between Orlando and Tampa. We have looked at Lakeland, Winter Park and a few others. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

I am sooo done with NJ winters and the prices for Real Estate up here. Moving to fla will save me a bundle not having to travel to WDW. Not to mention we will be there every weekend!!!

that's amazing that moving to FL will save you money! I live in a tourist area, and thought our prices are high, until starting to research Florida.

I talk to a lot of CM's who live in the Winter Park area, and say it's very nice. I've not looked into there yet.

Hi Rich, if your looking to be near WDW you might consider the town of Davenport located only about 10 mins. away from Disney. You can still find some inexpensive homes there.

Davenport is looking great! I can't believe how populated Lakeland is! I didn't realize it was that large. How do you have 700 people per square mile?? Is that right?

I may be an average, remember that apartment complexes have a lot of people in them and they count children in these stats too. So if you have an apartment complex that has 30 apt's and figure there is an average of 2.5 people per apt. you will have 90 people there and all the families add up.
