I don't know specifics but they do buy the costumes from the manufacturers and not retail so they pay a lot more then they should but they also charge a CM that hasn't returned a costume or even a piece of a costume an arm and a leg...Wizzard419 wrote:How much would they charge them for a TOT costume, for example? Right market + popularity makes people spend stupid money on such things.
Someone sold one of the original paintings from the Disneyland HM elevator sold for $47,500 because they had the hype and disney collectors in the audience.

I don't know if they really pay more than they should (assuming "They" is disney) since private companies, rather than government, do care about the bottom line. They aren't ordering a large number, in comparison to something that is to be sold, and they are probably more durable than regular clothing, so they may be priced right.
I have a feeling if you "lose" a piece of a costume they charge you for the whole thing under the guise that you can't replace a single part without it looking off.

Girl on the Tightrope? I noticed the Syfy Channel is showing it as part of their advertisements for a show about "Hollywood Treasures" that go up for the auction block...Wizzard419 wrote:Someone sold one of the original paintings from the Disneyland HM elevator sold for $47,500 because they had the hype and disney collectors in the audience.

Yep, that's the one.
Re: Wishes from the Poly beach
Trust me when I say that what Disney will charge a CM for an non-returned costume or costume piece will be more than any right thinking person would want to pay for said costume or costume piece.
That said, there are plenty of things officially bought from Disney that are being sold every day. A costume that Disney has fined you for not returning? Good luck making a profit with that!!!

Can you give us any price examples? I know you say "no one in their right mind" but (such as with the ToT costume) you could probably get several grand since they are so rare.

That's probably one of those that would be like art theft, you would want the buyer lined up before you take it otherwise you take a big risk with no promise of reward.

Re: Wishes from the Poly beach
This has all been very fascinating to read, and interesting to think what the speculation on parts and pieces of Disney costumes might be worth on the second-hand market, but I'm afraid we have strayed a really long way from the topic at hand, of Wishes on the Poly beach. Perhaps we could open a new thread in which to continue the discussion? Mods?
Re: Wishes from the Poly beach
Epcot still has the security check for cast. We are required to show a work ID (and a photo ID if our pic is not on the ID, only ICPs, CRPs, and full/part time have photo work IDs, regular CPs don't) and have bags checked both when leaving and entering. And if we make a purchase and are leaving, we have to show the receipts and have it compared to what is in the Disney bags.Amy wrote:I didn't realize they had security checks for CM's too. I would think they would be more worried if any CM's are taking anything out with them at the end of the dayMadEye wrote:Basically the same thing. A joke. Point I was making was how much longer before they realize they don't need a security bag check for guests before entering the parks if they are getting rid of it for CM backstage entrances.Wizzard419 wrote:I'm not sure about worker stuff but the guest check has always been a joke compared to other parks, considering that as long as it's not in the bag it doesn't get checked.
As for the other parks, MK has security checks for CMs at West Clock where the CM buses pick up; not sure about DAK, as I've never entered backstage. I did DHS once; they also checked.
I did accidentally take my hat from SSR home on my last CP... I AM SERIOUS. It was a mistake and ended up mixed in my luggage. They never knew.

Re: CM Security and Costume Policy
Still sounds like they check the CM's better than the guests coming into the parks...
Re: CM Security and Costume Policy
Yeah, next thing you know they'll be making us walk through metal detectors while guests slip God knows what in or out. I'm serious.mindflipper wrote:Still sounds like they check the CM's better than the guests coming into the parks...

You're all like family in that you don't trust each other and you steal from one another and you're all out to get the old man's money!

Re: CM Security and Costume Policy
You say that... my British CM friend got his iPad stolen by one of his coworkers so we're not all clean-cut and wonderful people. Even though we act it on stage... well, most of us.Wizzard419 wrote:You're all like family in that you don't trust each other and you steal from one another and you're all out to get the old man's money!

They are. When all the CMs have their new blue ID cards, they'll have to swipe them to get in. Until then, it's the same as usual.mindflipper wrote:Still sounds like they check the CM's better than the guests coming into the parks...
