All right, still busy, may be more busy, etc.

Here we have the Korean BBQ tacos (braised short rib, cabbage and romaine slaw, fresh pickle, cilantro and green onion relish, and salsa roja), they are the taco that people will wait an hour in line at a food truck for.

Chicken and wild mushrooms (cremini, chantarlles, oyster mushrooms, and morells), I was happy to finally find verts, they are either never for sale or look all beat up.

There were drinks, but nothing new. If I recall I had a coconut porter beer with the tacos, from the maui brewing co.

Ewww, I'm allergic to coconut, but that doesn't even sound good

It's quite good, the flavor binds well with the malt flavor in porter style beer. It doesn't taste like you're eating coconut, it just has some of the flavor notes, kind of like how a cherry wheat beer doesn't taste the same as a cherry lambic (which is like a precursor to kirsch).

I keep forgetting to take pictures of the ripe black pearls before they get eaten (black cherry tomatoes). They are quite good and they taste almost like grapes when chilled.

But anyway, here are this week's items.

A Caipirinha, the national cocktail of Brazil. I wasn't about to mess with a machete to cut a sugar cane garnish that day since I was having an off day with knives.

Since it's the 4th the butcher had the extra special "Cowboy steaks" for sale (one steak actually can feed 2-3 people but everyone also likes left overs). They are bone-in rib-eyes, but for some reason they only cut them for 4th of July weekend.

Here we have a flourless chocolate cake (also called an espresso cloud) with fresh strawberry gelato.

Good thinking on not wielding a machete if you were having an off-day with knives
I would guess that cut of steak is pretty pricey...and most people might not want to contend with a bone in their ribeye?
Black cherry tomatoes? Mmmm, those sound tasty!

If I recall, it's more (per pound) than a normal ribeye but less than a standing rib roast/prime rib (since they come from the same part).

Well I just squished yet another squash bug  I'm really hoping that we got something out of the garden this year  2 of the cucumber plants are somewhat rallying after something has chomped off all their leaves, 1 plant is sadly DRT, a moment of silence for the dearly departed.... :(
So far I still have a few grape clusters hanging on. Going to have to fight the birds off to get those this fall I'm thinking. On the plus side, I did get 4 tasty, if seedy, black raspberries that have volunteered to grow on our patio this year!
Has anyone ever had the pleasure of squishing squash bugs? This was my second this summer and was pleasantly surprised to see the blue-ish, green-ish, teal-ish guts of the first bug were not an aberation. If I have to squash something, at least this way I get to think "cool!" along with "ick!"

I sometimes grow squash, not a huge fan but it grows well here. I've never seen squash bugs, or anything eat them. The only pesticide I use on the production garden is an organic soap spray that keeps the local pests away. As well as the army of ladybugs that seem to live in the trees, and the lizards that have been patrolling forever, and the dragonflies.

Then there is also birds as well, which can get annoying when they find a big score of insects in a tree and you hear dozens of finches chirping.

We have tons of birds. They are only annoying when I am trying to sleep in and they are being really loud!

All right, more new items.

Homemade cheese crackers (think cheese straw but not extruded), proscutto and melon, cheese and salami.
Image

Corn salad, very good for hot summer meals

Image

Duck tacos, half korean style and half peking style, very good and surprising to me as to how good they turned out.

Image

Here are some photos of the black pearl tomatoes, not as black this time but still the same super-sweet flavor (when thrown in the fridge they taste like grapes)

Image

Some breakfast fritters with blueberry compote (as not to waste the oil I also made churros later that day).

Image

Banana Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, the shocker here is that it contains no eggs or granulated sugar.

Image

This was more to show off the dressing, but a "high class" wedge salad with home grown tomatoes, and homemade ranch dressing.

Image

And chocolate chess pie with spiked whipped cream. For those that don't know where the name comes from, imagine if the name were spoken without being dragged through the mud by a southern accent. It would go from "Chess" to "Just". :D
