World Record Attempt

Post by Amy » Jun Mon 13, 2011 6:54 pm

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon will be holding the World's Largest Swimming Lesson on Tuesday, June 14. This international event will be held at 900 facilities across the world, with an estimated 30,000 participants involved. An attempt will be made to break last year's Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson ever conducted. Typhoon Lagoon's event is presented by a group of the nation's leading water safety and training organizations as a way to educated about water safety.

Registration will begin at 9 am; the event begins at 11 am. Regular water park admission is required. The park is still operating as normal, but the wave pool will be closed to everyone but registered swimming lesson participants from 10:35-11:45 am.
Anybody that lives close participating in this? Sounds like fun...well, the being part of a world record, not that many bodies in one pool at the same time

Sounds like they're gonna need a whole lot of that blue dye chemical in the pool!

I hope there is a report at the end though...would be interesting to see if they achieve the record.

I participated in a fun run once where everyone was dressed up like Santa to try and break a world record....we did...for a little while anyway. The original title holders won it back! :?

They'll probably be packed in like sardines, no chance of drowning when you are in an upright and locked position! I would guess the lifeguards would join in and be part of the world record attempt number perhaps?

I would guess (????) that they would hand out times, requiring you to register for certain blocks of time in order to prevent overcrowding. Sounds like they could use the FP system for this...

Seems like an interesting thing. Every year Rutgers goes for a crazy world record like the most people air guitaring at one time or most people dressed up as Waldo in one place. We usually fail...

I hope they succeed because it would be cool to read about it in next year's published Guiness book.

Nope the record was attempted when I was not usually around on campus. Didn't think it was worth sitting at RU for 5 hours for a 30 minute thing.

You seem like a fun-loving guy, Len90, so I am actually more stunned you didn't do it... :?

I'm concerned about the one on one time needed for true swimming capabilities... :)

I didn't see anything yet on whether they accomplished their goal or not. I sure hope people would understand they would need further instruction in order to really be able to swim

I think there's only two grades given to those who take the training: sink or swim. Let's hope more for the latter than the former...
