Hoop-De Doo/Spirit of Aloha Show/Mickey's Backyard BBQ
We are planning a trip soon and are torn on which 2 credit (Dining Plan) show we're going to see. These are the three choices, Hoop-De Doo vs. Spirit of Aloha Show and Mickey's Backyard BBQ so please give me your honest reviews of each...

I've only experienced the Hoop-De-Doo Review. If you liked the show at the Golden Horseshoe, then you would like the Hoop-De-Doo ~ same idea, just a little longer. The food was ok, nothing great. It has been a really long time since we went so I don't remember too many details ~ sorry...rphillips14 wrote:We are planning a trip soon and are torn on which 2 credit (Dining Plan) show we're going to see. Are you going with kids...and if so what ages and how many? I know that most all kids LOVE the Hoop-Dee-Doo. Do they still do all of the fire dancing and everything for the Spirit of Aloha show? I remember that from a loooooooooong time ago and I enjoyed it as a small child. Never done the Backyard BBQ...but I would assume the food would be good and I am guessing it is a Character Dinner so that would be a plus.

I remember seeing the Spirit of Aloha from a distance when I was kid staying at the Poly. It was spectacular when I was kid. Like BIG, I wonder if it's the same show from back then.

Re: Hoop-De Doo/Spirit of Aloha Show/Mickey's Backyard BBQ
I remember the luau at the Poly back in the 70s. My family always celebrated special events there. All the music, costumers, and dance from that part of the world was wonderful.
In April my husband and I went and I was sadly disappointed. Yes, there was the amazing fire dancing in traditional outfits. But you had to sit through the first half of the show which was modern--the story is a young lady going off to college and the grandmother wanted her to take her cultural dances with her. I hated it all except for the small, last part with the traditional dancing. The food was mediocre at best. I've been to the Hoop, but again, it was back in the 70s. If it hasn't changed as people stated above, then a good time will be had by all. I've never experienced the BBQ.
Thanks for sending me a message Amy!!

Thanks, dichuy. I think I'm remembering the earlier version more than the contemporary version.

Sounds like no one has experienced the Mickey's Backyard BBQ yet...is that show relatively new?

Either that or there are rarely any survivors.

I don't know how new it is but it's out there with hoop and Aloha so I included it in the question?

Re: Hoop-De Doo/Spirit of Aloha Show/Mickey's Backyard BBQ
We went to both the Hoop De Doo and the Poly back in the 70s/80s, and while I have fond memories of the latter, I think the former is more fun. We're going to see the Hoop Dee Doo on our next trip, since our kids are sure to enjoy it. We saw the Poly show back on our honeymoon in 2001, and while it was nice enough it wasn't particularly memorable or thrilling.

Re: Hoop-De Doo/Spirit of Aloha Show/Mickey's Backyard BBQ
I just did the Hoop De Do for the first time this past January. There are few things I dislike about WDW and this is one of them. Now maybe part of ti was because we were a party of 2 and they stuck us in a corner off to the side of the stage, but I felt ti was not worth the money at all. Our food came out ice cold, the services was horrible, and up until we got to play the washboards at the end, the show was boring as well. I would never repeat nor recommend. They were also supposed to recognize us due to our anniversary and that didn't happen either. It's location is also a pain. Once you get to Fort WIlderness, you need to grab a bus to get there. Give yourself at least an extra 45 minutes if you choose to have dinner there.
"hold on to them hats and glasses, cause this here's the wildest ride in the wilderness!!"
