That was my thought as well. Maybe show the Silly Symphony cartoons, sine they would be right in line with the theme.
Along those same lines, it would be nice if they would actually screen Snow White in there from time to time for "limited showings".

Just a thought...

Latest update from Micechat: Pirates premiere, Lighting up Little Mermaid, Glow Tours, Goofy construction, etc.
Anyone else surprised at how long they are keeping five attractions down in order to have the premiere of the Pirates movie on the Rivers of America?!
And I might need to borrow Ariel's wedding dress design for when I get married someday...that is cute! :ariel:
Anyone know if the Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta restaurant will have multiple level seating? It looks very tall...

Not really, if i recall that was how it was at one of the Pirate's premiered (forgot if it was 2 or 3).

I still have to say that the "main street cinema" idea is one that they probably will never do again (since it doesn't appear at any other park) since it just doesn't draw that many people in and there is no money to be made on it as well.

I remember they did that POTC2, but I also thought they did POTC3 there as well - so it could be both.

I remember there were blankets there with the movie name on it, I will have to check if my neighbor still has his, I threw mine out.

Sure there is. Don't you think there's going to be tons of '30s type merchandise out there due to the new theme of the park. Since there is already an attraction based on the Silly Symphonies, having a place where the cartoons can be shown opens up a whole new line of merch and hopefully a new generation will come to love the classic short cartoons. Besides, it would be a nice spot to relax on a come-and-go-as-you-please basis.

No, not really. The merch may be slightly different but I don't expect a flood of faux art deco stuff to enter the parks. If you look at most attractions built they are not "sit and relax" and there is probably a reason they never did another one (aside from it looks like a good place to kidnap people :D).

It wouldn't be much different than other theatre based attractions. It could even be set up on a schedule rather than just come and go. Besides, if they really wanted to they could make it a retail space with a carved out seating area with the cartoons on a continuous loop. Kinda like the way the new style of Disney Store is set up. There...not a true sit and relax space, but a well themed attraction within a retail space.
BTW, why don't you think there will be faux art deco stuff? They certainly won't be selling merch with that tacky tourist vibe anymore. I figured the new merch would match the new theme of the park. Besides, why not use the opportunity to add in some new plush characters (like some of the Silly Symphony or other classic characters) or collectibles? They brought life back to Clarabelle Cow and Clara Cluck...so why not? :mickey:

The key with other theater based attractions is they have a storyline and a fixed schedule where you come in and leave at specific intervals, so they aren't really the same. You may notice that they don't want you hanging around too long in the park retail spots either, they want you to pick your stuff, hand over the cash and get out (or just steps 2 and 3 :D).

I didn't say there will be "none", as noted in the quote, I said there will not be a flood. There actually might not be any if you think about it. Does ToT sell art deco merch still? Sidenote, I am not 100% sure about the story behind this but at the opening of the DCA version they had an art deco figure for sale (with pricetag) behind the counter at the photo desk. I'm not sure if they took it down, someone bought it, why it was for sale, etc. But anyway, the reason I don't think there will be much, if any, is simply that the merch people have been prone to designs that they can reuse in multiple parks or is printed onto something generic (such as a shirt). I'm guessing crappy picture frames and possibly pens/desk stuff.

Also, nope, I have never sold on ebay. I try to avoid the hoarder mentality that some people seem to get when they become a seller.

In my previous post I did mention that a schedule could be posted rather than leaving it open. Which would suit the park mentality better.
Even if it were an exhibit about the history of the Studio and the early years of Walt. Like a mini museum. People are not going to spend all day there and that's not the point. The point is to keep the history alive.

All I'm trying to say is I'd rather see something along these lines go in there than just have an empty facade. Even if there is some high end restaurant/elite club in there, it won't be something that all families can take part in.

I do agree about how the merch tends to be across all parks (I hate that :( )...and I didn't say there would be a flood of it either. I just think that there will be some new stuff along the new theme, and it would be a perfect way to bring back some classic characters.

I do recall there being premieres of the other POTC movies being held at Disneyland. I never realized how massive of a set-up it is. Good to see Disney using Duffy to the max. Those graduation ones will make plenty of profit as a lot of people celebrate a school graduation with a trip to Disney the following summer. I really think Mermaid will be doing soft openings or giving CMs ride-throughs very soon as it is just about done. Star Tours 2 should also be soft-opening. They are both slated to open in about 4 weeks from now.... I can't wait to hear the first reviews of both. I have high expectations.

I was surprised when I saw that the contest they were holding for the little mermaid would not include any soft-opening, I wonder if they are cutting it close with this one?

Well, there's a lot that will be celebrating graduation at WDW for the last time - Disney announced this would be the final year for Grad Nite at WDW. Do they have Grad Nite at DLR? If so, is it being cancelled there too?

Looks like they still have grad night at DLR, but it may also go away. I forgot, did they give a reason for the ending of WDW's grad night? If it was a regional issue, such as too many guests being unhappy about being kicked out of a park, then it might just be WDW that ends it.

Oh just found the article, only WDW is having their's axed, and the big name for their final one will be DJ Pauly from Jersey Shore!
