The benefit is also if you're staying at a resort where it's one of multiple stops to a park, you can actually get to the parks sooner since you don't have to wait for all the other stops.

Didn't Jacca once post a link to an advice article that included parking advice? Don't know where it is, but you might want to look it up. Some of it was pretty good, I recall.

I wouldn't recommend anyone do this because it is cheating the system and it's going to waste a lot of your time transferring around. Sure it saves you $14, but you're going to lose at least an hour if not more over the course of the day driving to DTD, parking, waiting for the resort bus, riding to the resort, waiting for the park bus, driving to the park and then doing the reverse on your return trip. But I'm curious why you say that it doesn't work for Animal Kingdom. You could transfer to any of the Animal Kingdom resorts just like any other park.

That and if they really wanted to, they could start enforcing the rules.

Or start charging to park at DTD, or requiring so many purchases with receipts as proof for free parking...

I actually wish they would enforce the rules and have buses connecting the parks with DTD again. They would just require you show your KttW when boarding the theme park buses at DTD.

The only difficulty would be those staying off property who start the day out at a theme park, ride over to DTD, and then need to get back to the theme park for their car/shuttle, but that could be solved with a hand stamp.

parking can be expensive..I believe it is 14 dollars a day. As for driving on Disney property..I would take a "test run" the day before so that you know where you are going. It always drives me crazy when I see tourist not knowing what they are doing..or where they are going. It really isn't that difficult to navigate..and a little practice and go a long way!

Then again, would it kill Disney to include a basic road map of the roads for tourists so they look at that if they couldn't follow the signs?

There are plenty of map websites (i.e. mapquest) and you can use google maps or google earth. Bing maps can get a closer look at roads/buildings than google. Of course, it does help to know where you are coming from (a resort and which one, off property, etc.) and where you are going.

Even with a map/gps system, as Madeye pointed out, you're still going to drive poorly as you look for specific streets or whatnot.

Let me just chime in and say that parking at Downtown Disney, taking a bus to a resort, then taking another bus to the parks is a huge waste of time. Yes, it annoys me to have to pay $14 for parking. But do you have any idea how long you're going to wait at a resort for a bus that goes to the park you want?

During our Summer Nightastic trip last August, Future Gal and I decided to go to the Magic Kingdom after spending the afternoon resting in our room at All-Star Music. So we went to the bus stop. Just as we got there a Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon bus pulled up. Followed by an EPCOT bus. Then another EPCOT bus. Then another Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon bus. Then an Animal Kingdom bus. Then another Typhoon Lagoon/Downtown Disney bus! We waited at least a half hour before a Magic Kingdom bus finally showed up!

For me, it's worth $14 not to go through that.

Some people would rather spend lots of time transfering just to save some money. My personal favorite, my dentist, last time he did the math for me he makes roughly $150 an hour (might be more, I forgot), and he does a similar thing when going to the Staples center.

While the resort signs are very clear and broken down into groups that are easy to follow, there are so many cell phones that have maps/gps/directions in them nowadays that it should be pretty easy to follow your way around if yours can do that. I'm pretty sure the Disney world website has a downloadable map of the entire resort.
