Electrical Parade

Post by Lion Sleeps Tonight » Sep Fri 30, 2005 5:46 pm

Hey everyone!

This just came to mind since the EP is playing right now. The version that CA Adventure has, is shorter right? The first time I saw it there I thought it was shorter from what I remembered as a kid. I just dismissed it as a brainfart.

But I know there are parts missing, so can anyone tell me what floats are gone? Or at least point me in the right direction as to where I can find info on it? Help would be much appreciated. :D

It should be a litttle shorter (I think) -- I mean, the Parade Corridor is shorter than the Parade Route after all. I'm not sure what the exact differences are (ie: what floats MSEP had that DEP doesn't)

I have pictures from the FL parade somewhere around here - you don't happen to have pics from the CA one, do you? We could compare. Woudl be kinda fun. :D

And I thought I was the only one who used the term 'brain fart.' So glad I'm not.

I am just glad that the Parade still exists in some form. I actually have a light from one of the floats from when they first decomissioned it. They sold them to raise money for a charity I believe, and my mom bought one for me and gave it to me for Christmas several years ago.

I remember seeing the parade as a very young boy in the mid 70s, and the Elliot float was my favorite. I hope that one is still there.

Sorry, I personally don't have pictures, but I assume a simple Google search would turn up some.

Shameless plug and thread necromancy!

zenmondo- The Elliot float is still there, and he still turns invisible and snorts smoke from his nostrils-I think.

I've tried searching for images of the original parade, but the searches have come up short. I think I tried Mouse Times, but I'll look again. Thanks for the suggestion!

I haven't seen the DEP, but by listening to the music of the DCA version of the electrical parade, you can tell that the Pleasure Island floats are gone. This float was also left out when the Electrical Parade came to Florida for the millenium celebration.

I also remember Pete riding the Dragon, and talking to the crowd. It was Pete in his "school clothes". I also have a dim 27 year old memory of thinking that Pete was the luckiest boy alive at that moment.

I saw it in 2001 and it was much longer than it is now. (The last time I got to see it was in 2004) I knew it seemed much shorter than it use to be.

I too remmeber pete from Petes dragon adn elliott riding on top talknf to the crowds.

Yeah, Pleasure Island is missing. Unfortunately, I think that the Dwarf's Diamond Mine is also gone. (At least it was all of the times I have seen it at DCA). The mine cart train is still there (with Dopey driving as always), but the rest of the mine is gone, forcing those other 6 Dwarfs to walk the parade route.

On another note, comparing to pictures from WDW wouldn't be totally legit. There are a couple copies of the MSEP that have toured the 4 resorts (not Hong Kong) at some point or another, each with some specific floats of their own. In particular, I remember seeing a Small World float once in Disneyworld that I never saw in Disneyland.

I haven't been to cal. adventures, and really don't have any great desire to go, but if I do go in the future, it will be mainly be to see the electric light parade. This was an all time favorite for me. I still crave he music, love the pipe organ.

I haven't been to DL since 78 (I'm an East Coaster and go to WDW all the time), but have you tried listening to the original parade and see that maybe you could figure it out?

Ok well my boyfreind happens to own a farewell tour VHS Tape that takes you behind the scenes of the original Disneyland Mainstreet Electrical Parade. And I have personally seen the Cali Adven one a few times myself. And it is definately alot shorter. The first words out of my mouth when I first saw it in Cali Adven was, "That was it!?"

TrojanGrad is correct. Plesure Island is gone, The whole mine scene is gone and the Ode to America is gone. There are few more items but I don't want to mislead you because this is all off my memory. I think it ends just with Mickey. But it isn't as spectacular as it once was. If you wanna go see it just to dust off a few memories then I recommend it. But if you want the same feeling you felt when it was gliding down Main Street USA don't count on it. I hate to be a negative ned but that's what I got out of it.
I do stuff sometimes.
