That was one of the key flaws with Tomorrowland too, updates were expensive and had short shelf-lives. Hence the turn towards the "fantasy future" rather than a hard prediction. Look at Discoveryland, they started out with the fantasy future and it's great. A lot of the complaints about the US versions that I see are based on how they changed from the hard future to something that would last longer than 5 years.

I love the idea of "fantasy future" and think it was what saved Tomorrowland. I think a lot of that has been somewhat abandoned with the updated TTA-Peoplemover.

The main gripe everyone has with the CoP is that the last scene is horribly outdated...to the point that most casual WDW fans won't spend the time to see the attraction each trip. It would be one thing if it was "retro"...but the future through the eyes of the mid-90s is more lame than it is retro. Do I wish I could tell my oven what to do? Sure. Do I want to watch Father in his Cosby sweater continue to burn the family's turkey? No. Same goes with the "new" virtual reality space pilot game. We're coming up on 17 years since that last scene has been updated (minus the TV and possibly Mother's computer).

You can tell your oven what to do via cell phone. :D

But anyway, remember the purpose for the attraction (and many tomorrowland attractions) was to be an infomercial, entertainment was a byproduct. When you listen to the various versions you can hear them shilling the GE brand, hard. The main reason companies don't sponsor attractions as freely now is that they get better and cheaper returns through other formats. I could say "once the economy turns around the sponsors will come back to the parks and new rides would be build every year!", but that would be unlikely.

I would swear that i've seen the arm move on the yeti in recent years. I saw it move fully once a long time ago where his hold body sort of lifts and almost dives at you- I'm not talking about that. The yeti has definitely remained stationary as though he's hanging from the rock wall, but I would swear that at least his arm still moves ans maybe slight head motion. You go by so fast though and the strobe effect may add to an illusion of motion, I don't know. Anyway it would be cool if it were fully functional again whether or not it is partially functional.

Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular needs some help. The original Indy actor (Not Harrison Ford I mean the guy from the stunt show) is probably gray by this point and possibly retired and they're still running the exact same show.

Beauty and the Beast stage show needs love. The costumes looked ratty, dirty, and old the one and only time I sat through it.

Test Track could use some work, at least with respect to the pre-show.

Somebody please renovate Tiki Room. Please. This would be the perfect time. They had a fire and Gilbert Gottfried allegedly made some biggoted jokes about Japan in the wake of the disasters causing him to fired by Aflac as the Aflac duck/goose- time he gets fired as Iago at Tiki Room too...

EDIT: Oh and get rid of those stupid Indy racers in Tomorrowland. Massive real estate gobbler, smelly, noisy, not futuristic, dull, inefficient, and probably relatively harmful to the environment comparatively.

While on the subject of the environment, it's not really a renovation but add a recycle bin next to every trash bin. They promote recycling everywhere, esp. AK and EPCOT, and then you have to search 20 minutes to find a recycle bin for plastic bottles.

I'm a little surprised they don't update ride audio/preshows for those attractions every 10 years or so. Though I bet Bill Nye just cringes because Disney can call him "the science guy" but he cannot call himself that. :D

Disney owns it and supposedly they had a nasty falling out with him and pretty much barred him from using it on tv/video.

Just think about how many people would go to see it if they redid the entire thing! Focus would be put on progress and the great innovations each generation from 1900 to 2010+ has made. It doesn't even have to be centered on electricity...but rather progress.
Maybe mindflipper and myself should work as consultants for WDI and help them out with this. 8-)
But does GE still sponsor the attraction? If so, they probably would prefer some more emphasis on the eco-friendly direction like their television ads show...

There hasn't been a sponsor in over 20 years (almost 30 now), so I would say consider yourself blessed that they even did an update in the 90's. Companies really don't want to sponsor attractions anymore since they can get more bang for their buck elsewhere.

Heck, look at DCA, almost none of the attractions have sponsors and none of the E-Tickets (which normally suck the sponsors in) have any. It just isn't as powerful a medium as it use to be.

True, but they are finding out ways to have other tie-ins with the ride: merchandising. TSMM has its own video game. I wonder how long before they come up with other video games based upon theme-park rides?

They did an entire video game on Disneyland (for the NES), and there is Epic Mickey, and other games. I asked someone about the wii one and apparently it's pretty awful since the voice actors used were not the same as in it's namesake.

DCA is surprisingly light on the forced merch stuff. You'll notice a lot of the rides don't exit into a gift shop, just near it. Unlike the old style of it being part of the way out.

What's wrong with ToT? :D Do you only want the elevator to go down at a reasonable pace?
