Unlike the other rides you mentioned such as POTC and SSE, World of Motion just didn't have the crowds. JII had also lost visitor traffic too. I don't think it would had mattered who was in charge at TDO - these attractions had to be replaced with something that would draw better crowds...
What sort of problems did Horizons have mindflipper? I don't know that I have ever heard that before...
(1) decrease in visitor traffic
(2) roof problems (unconfirmed)
(3) foundation problems (unconfirmed)
(4) too expensive to upgrade the outdated/stale show (like how outdated CoP is)

Don't forget the sponsor pulled out because of lack of interest from the guests.
As long as a ride gets a decent amount of people in it they won't axe it. I would say that the sponsor leaving is also an automatic shutdown, but Universe of Energy is still open. Albeit, it is so heavily dated that it still references Bill Nye "The Science Guy" (they screwed him royally there).
I never got how people would actually go there, it doesn't pull people in like the newer attractions. Half the time you walk by it you think it's not even running. But, it's dirt cheap to run and can suck a ton of people out of circulation for a while.

Hit the nail on the head there! I think most people go there to be somewhere cool (especially during the summer), where its dark (where you can take a nap sitting up), and just rest for several minutes. That's what they did with the original UoE because it was so incredibly boring...

I think somebody will pick up UoE soon. BP should sponsor to try and mend there reputation.

If BP did - and I don't think they could due to financial constraints - they would want to change it to push certain BP aspects to get them a better repuatation.

BP isn't really hurting as much as people would like, they only paid out a tiny portion of the judgment against them and are fighting the rest (and will probably never pay). But they probably wouldn't want to sponsor it anyway because it may not give them as much bang for their buck as a website or various PR things.

That's true; look how long the Exxon Valdez case went on and in the end had most of the judgement against them thrown out in appeals in Federal Court. i'm sure the same thing will happen 10-20 years down the road after never-ending delays...

Oh, it was much better than that, in an ap course in high school we were shown a video they (Exxon) had put out in the 90's noting how much they had improved the areas, and how new species had even moved in! Basically stating that their spill actually improved the ecosystem and economy there.

You have to admit they do have some big brass ones. Imagine being able to blow up an orphanage full of kittens and then being able to say how the community is being improved by the removal of the old building.

When the villagers stormed the Frankenstein's castle, they had torches and pitchforks. So if you buy your pitchfork from Wizz, I'm over here selling the torches to make it a matching set.

I couldn't get the permits for the torch sales, something about "too many arson arrests".
