DVC at WDW

Post by yodiwan1 » Mar Tue 15, 2011 8:38 am

So, already asked in the trips and planning forum, but only 7 views in almost 2 days have made me realize...maybe I was in the wrong area. I have always wanted to try to renting DVC point approach and staying on property. I have seen a few websites that offer this, but was wondering if there were any subsonicers I could talk to about this, or rent their points from them. Since this is strictly a WDW trip I figured maybe I can ask in this forum since more people tend to view it. If anyone can share info or help that would be awesome!

That makes it sound like renting points from a DVC member can be a good deal - I never thought of doing this.

I rented back in 2008 when I went for the WDW Half Marathon. It was a great deal for us since it gave us Magical Express as well as the Dining Plan...without having to pay through Disney.

So if you stay at a DVC resort, even if you aren't a member, you can get the dining plan for free? Nice! Or did you have to buy a whole package ~ room, tickets ~ to get the dining plan thrown in?

DVC members can purchase the dining plan anytime, but to get free dining you've got to purchase a Magic Your Way package with room and tickets, which I'm pretty sure excludes them from getting it by just staying on points. It's similar to AP holders have to buy tickets if they want the free dining promotion.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

Do you know if they ever have the dining plan offered free just with the hotel room? It was so nice this past trip having that free dining option, but since we had to upgrade to AP we won't need to buy tickets this next time.

No, you've always had to buy the vacation package to get the free dining. As an AP holder, you can save this ticket and apply it towards your renewal.

But I would honesty compare the AP discount + paid dining plan or Tables in Wonderland. For my husband and I, that's always worked out a lot cheaper even though you're not getting "free" food.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info everyone!!! We had to move our trip up to next week, so we ended up booked the Sheraton Safari right across the street from DTD! Much bigger rooms than the value resorts, adn with my wife's work discount only $60/night as opposed to $102 at Pop Century!! Not a bad steal considering we weren't going to do EMH and have annual passes so parking is free!! I can't wait to get there already!!!

Yeah...we did pay for the dining plan...but it worked out for us money-wise because of how much we saved on our DVC rental. I want to say we rented our points for only $9 per point...and there were 3 of us guys in there...so split that 3 ways and we saved a ton of money. Also, you don't pay an extra fee for rooms containing more than 2 adults when you are staying via DVC...so that was an extra $25 per night we also saved.

$9 per point sounds very reasonable, and split 3 ways with no extra person fee, that sounds like a steal!
