It isn't all bad. I do prefer the original version that is still out in DL, but I like the one at WDW too. That version of the song is on more of my CD's so I sing along with Iago almost daily!

The original featured music more in tune with the polynesian theme than ETR: UNM. "In The Still of the Night" just doesn't fit with the Tiki theme. And it's not the only song that just seems a wrong fit in the new show.

I guess I'm just spoiled rotten by having the original so close that UNM is revolting to me...I know we videotaped it on our honeymoon...I guess I'll have to pull out those tapes and watch it again. (I guess it would be easier to go on YouTube and find it though, huh?)

YouTube would be quicker, but maybe watching the videotape would be an entertaining distraction for Cbog40 during his recovery....

Reports are that this will now be down until the END of June... This sounds like a pretty serious issue if it is cutting into the Summer rush. Like the show or not, it still helps divert some of the crowds.

Come on re-vamp to old show!!!

A very interesting new rumor has surfaced saying that the original Tiki Room is indeed returning. People who have seen the inside of the theater report that there's scaffolding everywhere. Also, the birds have been removed from the preshow area. Now, I know what you're thinking: Why would the notoriously cheap Team Disney Orlando go to the trouble of restoring the old show? Wouldn't it be much simpler to just replace the animatronics that were damaged by the fire and sprinklers, plug 'em in, and open the Under New Management show again? As it turns out, it's not that simple.

As you're probably aware, there are two Iago Animatronics: Iago 1, the "regular" one, and Iago 2, the "burnt" one you see after the Tiki Gods wreak their vengeance. Iago 1 was irreparably damaged by the fire. Additionally, the Uhoah the Tiki Goddess figure was also ruined by the water from the sprinkler system cascading down from the birdmobile. Again, why not just replace the damaged figures? Well, Disney doesn't make their own Animatronics anymore; they've outsourced that. And the company they buy Animatronics from has changed since the Under New Management show debuted, meaning that new Iago and Uhoah figures would have to be re-engineered and reprogrammed. All this for a show that nobody likes or goes to see. Therefore, the costs involved in restoring the old show (remember, the programming for it already exists and is being used at Disneyland) or fixing up the new show are about even. Since restoring the old show will give Disney something to promote, and help to slightly ease the congestion caused by Toontown's closure, it's a more attractive option than it otherwise might have been.

That's not a very fair statement. It's not true that nobody likes it or goes to see it. I love it (and for those thinking I must not have seen the original, I did see it too). Every time I go to see it there's a decent sized crowd considering that it continuously goes every 10-15 minutes throughout the day.

Either way...restoring UNM or restoring the original - it sounds like ETR will be down for a long time and maybe not back up until summertime...

Sorry they aren't listening to you Poly. I know you really like the new show. I like the old and new shows myself so I am just sitting back and waiting to see what happens. Interesting points brought up by Future Guy though...sad that the goddess was damaged. She was an awesome AA!

No, I don't accept there's any truth to that rumor either. It does seem more people are on the side of believing the rumors than proceeding with some healthy skepticism (after all, this is TDO we're talking about so they will choose whichever option is the cheapest - and unless I see something come from Disney's own blog, I'm presuming the UNM will be restored). The point I was making is that ETR will be down until summer regardless which way ETR goes - back to UNM or back to the original show.

I'm usually pretty skeptical of rumors, too, and I'm not going to really believe this one until I see an official announcement. However, the info I conveyed was posted on another board by Foxxfur, author of the blog Passport To Dreams Old and New. She's a former Magic Kingdom CM, and her encyclopedic knowledge of the park is unparalleled.

Something else I heard from more than one source is that a new Iago Animatronic has not been ordered, and without Iago there is no UNM show, leaving Disney with the choice of either bringing back the old show or coming up with something new. While I would personally prefer something new, it's certainly cheaper and easier to restore the old show. So, although there hasn't been an official announcement everything we know would seem to support the conclusion that the old show is returning.
