i think this is more of an adults, not so much family kind of thing. i love the river running thru POFQ/R, but i agree, i would certainly never pay for a "water view" room. yet, something like this is a little different. a more private, or escape oriented disney moment that you would actually take the time to schedule in? fancyfeet does make it sound good, and taken as suggested, a one time thing to experience, i believe "experience" would be the word for it. constantly exploring all of the wdw property for new/unique spots & things to do, this sounds like one i'd like to try (when the kids are gone). i imagine you're not limited to the poly for a room like this, probably most resorts on the lagoon have a (pricey) section like this. doesn't even slightly grab your interest?
If I was going to do more relaxing than visiting the parks, then maybe...but I think I would a resort more tuned to that than Disney theme-park resorts.

Are those the club level rooms?
Yes, only the club level rooms are in the Hawaii building. At the deluxes, they always put the club level in a special building or a separate floor and you have to use your room key (gold colored for club level!) to even get in to prevent people from just wandering in and using the lounge. The only other building at the Polynesian that has access is the Tonga building, which is entirely made up by the suites. It's not directly by the Hawaii building - it's over on the other side of the pool and Great Ceremonial House. If I'm not mistaken, they have the basic snacks in their building, but have to go over to the Hawaii lounge for the larger "meal" servings.

No, all theme park views are not in the Hawaii building and are not automatically club level. Unless I'm missing a building, I think all of the standard theme park view rooms are located in Tahiti and Tuvalu. Everything in the Hawaii building is club level. They must have oversold the standard theme park view rooms when you went, thus why you got an upgrade to club level.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

Good to know! I would hate to pay all that money for a theme park view room and walk in expecting to be in the Hawaii building again. I did have the gold colored room key which is now in my scrap book. A couple places I went for dinner were like "wow, I've never seen this gold one before!" No wonder the view from my balcony was so good!!

I would be happy with any view if I were lucky enough to stay at the Poly :D I never spend much time in the room anyway. :ccat:

If you get the chance, you should definitely stay there one trip! The Polynesian was always my dream resort growing up, but my parents were always very frugal with our hotel rooms. We didn't even start staying on property until I was in high school, and only then because my cousin was getting married there and they had a room quota to fill. We always stayed on property then, but only at values. Of course, the first time my family went after I got married they stayed at a moderate, but that's a whole other story.

When my husband took me to the Polynesian the first time, it was like a dream the whole trip. I couldn't believe I was actually staying there and kept thanking my husband endlessly. It was perfect. :)

People on the thread that know me, know that there is no other resort for me other than the Poly! My parent's started taking me to Disney when I was 3 and we stayed at the Poly, it holds a special place in my heart. B-dude and I also honeymooned at the Poly and we've been back since, of course! :D The Poly's grounds are so lush and beautiful and the location is fantastic. The fireworks views are wonderful and there is no bad view at the Poly. We lucked out on our honeymoon back in '06, they bumped us to Club Level in the Hawaii longhouse with a MK view, we were spoiled forever!

Anyway, the Poly is a gorgeous resort with the largest rooms of the Disney resorts, I don't think you can wrong there. You can also get Dole Whips at Capt. Cook's!!! You're avatar is making my mouth water Poly Princess! :D
