Mission: SPACE!

Post by Cub » Mar Thu 03, 2011 11:38 am

I've been to Disney World many many times, but I still haven't been courageous enough to ride Mission: SPACE!
My mom rode it once and she swears she will never ride it again. (She gets motion sick. I can't even get her on the teacups.)

My question is... is it as bad as she makes it out to be? I definitely don't get motion sickness. I will ride just about anything. We are going back in October and I might hop on it. I've done just about everything else except that. :mickey:

The scariest part of mission space is the queue. They freak you out with all of the warnings, if you just keep your head back and look at the screen the way they tell you it will be fine. It presses you into the seat less hard then say... rock & rollercoaster.

I went on Mission Space for the first time this past December. I don't have any problems with motion or heights so I chose the orange, more intense, side. I had no problems and thought it was fun. I did ride the green side once for comparison. I didn't notice a big difference between the two experiences. The orange side did push you back in your seat though. Since you don't really have any problems with motion ~ Go for it ~ you'll be glad you tried it!

I will definitely consider riding it! The bad thing is, I am going back with my mom and my little brother (he's 10.) So I doubt either of them will ride it with me.

Ride green first and see how you like it. DH gets nauseous on spinny rides but he's fine with MS Green.

Isn't your little bro excited about riding MS? I would think at 10 he would be up for the adventure!

I always wondered, since I only rode orange, does green even move?

Green team is nothing more than Star Tours. In fact I find it less rough than Body Wars was back in the day. I would definitely advise trying out green team before thinking about the orange. If you are okay with the set-up of green team and know you can handle g-forces, then I would say you will be fine for orange.

I for one, did both last July and will say that I am not a huge fan of intense g-forces. I found orange to be pretty intense at times but I will do it again since I find green a bit boring and anti-climatic.

Green will move like a motion simulator as opposed to spinning in orange.

Very nice description Len! I wonder if anyone knows if there is any footage of the attraction itself when it is in motion. I would love to see the inner workings :D

He can be a chicken... especially if mom tells him that she didn't like it. Then he won't ride it for sure. I will see if I can bribe him on it.

Huge tip for everyone: Do not ride Mission: Space just after eating, if you haven't eaten for a long time!!!

And when we find someone whose
Weirdness is compatible with ours,
We join up with them and fall in
Mutual weirdness and call it Love.”

Ah, that's good to know they didn't totally waste the simulators then. I remember at Sea World (San Diego), a long time ago, they had the simulator ride but then totally shut off the motion in one of them so that shorter people/motion sickness people could go on it. If it wasn't so wasteful of a machine it would be great.

yeah...I love riding Mission: Space...but it always leaves my stomach unsettled for at least 30-45 minutes afterward

which is why it is perfect timing to hop on over to the Universe of Energy!

Good tip. It will leave you worrying if dinner will stay down. I did orange right after a meal at Le Cellier. It was about 20 minutes after leaving the restaurant and I definitely should have waited a bit longer.
