Lap bars for Splash Mtn.

To me, I treat the parks the same way as if I was visiting someone else's home: treat it with the same respect as I would want visitors to treat my home upon a visit. Really - is that too hard?

That's the way Disney sees it as well. Why do you think they call people who visit "guests" and not customers?

There's Safety and Stupidity, no lap bar can keep a stupid person safe from themselves.

"Disney said the lap bars installed on the Splash Mountain boats will not significantly affect the ride's load time, nor will they reduce the number of people each vehicle can carry." They're gonna be wrong on both accounts

Lap bars will waste tons more time than the occasional fool who tries to get out early. Some heavier folks will be excluded from the ride, and think how much time that will waste, they get in only realize the bar doesn't go down enough and staff has to come over and see if they can push it down wasting tons of load time, because no one want to tell a guest you too big, you'll have to get off, but half the time that what happens, while we all wait for them now to get off. And will the let little children still sit between some their much heavier parents, like the old days, and the the silly teenagers will they still sit three to seat? I wonder more and more about Disney's reasoning in all departments now a days

I would agree it is difficult to keep stupid, irrational people safe! I thought I saw somewhere that a child is able to sit between parents because the lap bar doesn't interfere with them sitting there. I don't know that 3 adults, or 3 teenagers would be allowed to sit all in one row anymore though

Definitely not three adults in one row, and three teenagers would have to be really small or thin. I think Disney's reasoning is that it may not stop all stupid people, but if it stops many/most, than that's a good enough reason to do the lap bars.

From my experiences, 4 rides after the lap bars were installed, you will have to be really really small to wiggle out from under the lap bars.

On a side note: Splash will stop all moving lifts if it senses a lap bar not far down enough to where the computers that run it deem it "safe." Happened to us last night.

So it theoretically could be possibly that a larger sized guest could not be allowed to ride then? Or is the tolerance pretty large?

I would suspect Disney had found some way to compensate for the size of the guests in designing the lap bar system.

You wouldn't think so, but seeing how some guests treat the parks (and the resort rooms!), you have to wonder.

I did leave out the resort rooms, but I can't count how many hotel rooms I've had to exchange because of the damage done by a previous guest.

I wouldn't know as I don't work there nor do I know anyone who does... yet.

Now that I have rode Splash with the lap bars, I have to say they are a huge improvement. They didn't really seem to affect the loading time, but there was a HUGE difference in the amount of times that Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear caused "some kind of commotion upstream". It had gotten really bad with constantly stopping, but in all of the times we rode it on this trip, we only got stopped once and only for a second then. They've made the brown padding much smaller to give more room for the lap bar and getting in and out. My husband and I are both on the larger side and still found it easy to get in and out of, no trouble with the lap bar, etc. and I think that it will probably still be fine for those who are bigger.

I'm wondering if the rehab at DLR will probably include this but then again the logs for Splash Mountain's different so who knows?

Nope. But most guests seem to go dumb when they cross the border onto Disney property (unless they weren't dumb to begin with that is).

It's what we used to refer to as "vacationitis". (I suppose to "Disneyfy" it - Mousekevacationitis ) We see it all the time here and when I worked in a theme park, it was always the same attitudes...I empathize with all the CM's out there.

So do we. Because we have been on the receiving end of the theme park world, we have the utmost respect for CM's and the parks.

This is good to hear. I'm glad they were a positive improvement! I wondered from looking at the photos if the brown padding was indeed smaller ~ now I know
