...my friends that I want to take will NEVER see it the way it first was and what was usually better.
This bothers me a lot too. Most people who know me can't figure out how I can stand "Disney", and I have to explain the whole Walt vs. Eisner thing. I can't bring them to a park to show them the best stuff, because they're systematically eliminating everything that was even the slightest bit thought-provoking.

Exactly! BTW - latest word, SeaCabs still boarded up but with under construction signs. No other major surprise changes, just a good coat of paint. Main entrance to it is still closed though so no word on what that will look like...

Thanks for the update. I can't believe they have the cajones to still call it "Future World". Is there anything at all futuristic in there any more?

I never thought about it that way. I haven't been in over 7 years, but from what I've read the only things that are still futuristic are Mission:Space and Spaceship earth. I realize soo many attractions used to be about the history and future of mankind. Now it's just rides.

THEY ARE ALIVVVVVEEEEE...... woot! :D

Found this while surfing....
jimhillmedia.com wrote: The upside is ... Once construction is complete, Epcot's "Living Seas" will offer theme park visitors a "... whole new experience." Or so said the company spokesman who talked with that theme park's middle managers last week. The exact details of what this ".. whole new experience" will entail remain somewhat sketchy at this point. What is known is that the two theaters that used to be used to present this Future World pavilion's pre-show have been completely gutted. More importantly, the track that the "Sea Cabs" ride used to run on has now been extended by 100 feet. Which will allow the "Living Seas" to feature a "Finding Nemo" -themed dark ride as the new intro to Sea Base.

So it looks like the sea cabs will eventually be brought back to life...now we just have to wait and hope the rumor is true.

I just checked this out on Wednesday before Turkey day and I was a little disappointed. The place has a nice new paint job really dark blue, but some of the tanks are huge but almost empty again. The smaller tanks upstairs are interesting especially the one with the jelly fish. But there really isn't that much here.

We didn't check out the new Turtle Talk with Crush due to the line being way too ridiculous. And one thing I did notice, you walk through the gift shop FIRST, not last. I was shocked at this crazy reversed idea!

Rumor from WDI is that the seacabs will be reborn in Spring 2006. Then the main entrance will open again. Basically going to be the 'underwater' Nemo ride that they are building in Paris. The theater is gone. And of course as you all know, SeaBase Alpha is no more.

It's very sad to me that Seabase Alpha is no more. I've never been to WDW, but I remember seeing a segment on the Living Seas on the Disney Channel in the 80s and thinking it was very very cool. I do believe that SOMEDAY I will go to WDW, but so many things I have been looking foward to seeing are already gone.

I can't wait for the sea cabs...... but

We welcome you to Sea Ba.....uurh ummm NEMOWORLD

hehe...
I will miss the old seabase alpha. As a former marine biology student I loved the educational push to understand the worlds oceans better, with out a movie hook. Shame it had to change. I hope this is not a growing trend in Epcot, to merchandise all of the cool unique attractions, just to sell more merchandise. I guess Living Seas was always a weak spot for Disney in the merchandise area..thus the change.

Stuff I read about the revamp say they are taking out the Hydrolater. What is a Hydrolater? Is it that tube of water that divers can swim up? The video on mousetimes isn't working for me (one of the messages I get is bandwidth exceeded), so I am going off very old memories of the segment I saw on the Disney Channel in the 80s.

The "hydrolators" were the fake elevators that supposedly brought you down to and up from Seabase Alpha. They were semi-convincing. Some thought they were cheesy, I thought they were cool. I thought they provided decent atmosphere.

I loved the hydrolaters. I (being my naive self) used to actually think they descended at least a few feet.

I'd be really mad if they get rid of the second movie about the creation of the seas. It's so well put together and the wording is excellent.
