A roughly Mickey-shaped Darkwing Duck? I don't know...would you be tempted by that, mindflipper?
LOL, NO!!! But I had a cousin grow up watching those cartoons, so that is his perception of what "Disney" is. I might tempt him if he was into VM (which he's not). There are a few people around here who might be tempted...maybe packwingfn??

They clearly are running the gambit when it comes to themes if they are going for the disney afternoon stuff now.

How long until they start doing One Saturday Morning things?

Not sure Wiz... but I don't think it will be long before the Disney Junior shows get added to VM form.

Poly-P - The "mystery" vm's are sold in cardboard boxes and inside the box the vm is inside a foil pouch, so even if the boxes open you still can't see which one it is. HOWEVER, that still hasn't stopped people from opening the boxes and feeling the foil pouch inside. Some sought after vm's have accessories (like Buzz has a clear helmet) which you can feel through the foil. Unfortunately, this has happened quite often and many times you can see boxes taped back together in the stores.

Trading is actually fun but bothersome. As you stated, the pins are a little easier as they are smaller and can we worn around the neck. Most vm traders carry a few of them around the parks in their pockets or in a backpack. There are two options for trading, 1) clear box with 3 to 10 vm's in it (depending on store) and the trading is just like with the pins. If you see one that you like and yours is not already in the box, you can swap them. 2) There is a Mystery Box of 16 to 24 (again, depends on the store). Basically, the box has openings on one side, which is the side that faces the CM's. The other side just has numbers. You pick a number and you get the vm that occupies that slot. Your vm then goes into that numbered slot for the next guest who asks for that number. You get the chance to trade once from both boxes per store, per day, but since they turn over CM's during the day, you can go back and trade later with no problem.

It is fun and it's a different experience, which is why I like it for now... I liked trading pins as well.

You know my feeling about those mystery boxes, but you know, if I did collect, I think a retaped box would be an immediate "Stay away" sign, since someone obviously didn't like what they felt, so they put it back...

True... I haven't purchased any taped boxes or ones that look like they have been tampered with in any way. Also, I'm kind of a fan of the mystery boxes now. They have been fun with the kids. We buy a couple of boxes at the DS and I make the kids wait until they get home to open them. The anticipation on their faces, along with the happiness when they get one that they wanted or the disappointment when they get a duplicate is part of the fun. I just remind them that if they don't like what they got, they can always trade it away in the parks. Gives them yet another thing to look forward to on their trip(s). ;)

Very interesting! Thanks for the explanation! I still don't like mystery aspect - I like buying what I want. But the store trading does sound like fun and I could see having fun trading one around.
Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

If they start doing the "Mystery Box DUFFY" next then you'll know the trading will come next...

How do they keep track of whether someone has traded or not during the day? Or do they not really keep track?

I probably wouldn't buy a re-taped box either, but I wouldn't automatically assume it was a dud. Someone might have just pegged it as a duplicate is all. I would think the Disney store would watch the collectibles a little closer to ensure people didn't try to open them

With the cutbacks in staffing, maybe Disney Stores and the stores in the park just don't have enough personnel to watch over the merchandise like they could before...

Amy - They don't keep track but if you keep returning to the same store every 20 minutes or so, then they may say something. :) No, I don't speak from experience.

It's posted at least here in the Disney Parks Blog:
Blog of Disney Park-related Wisdom wrote:Guests may trade a maximum of one (1) Vinylmation Figure per activity, per location, per day.
Are you worried that they might sue you for trading more than one VM a day if you try it or why do you ask?
