WDW In August, 2006

I just found out that my brother and sister-in-law are planning a vacation out west by themselves the second week of August, 2006. They have asked me to watch my nephew who absolutely loves WDW. Has anyone had any experience with travel to WDW in August. We usually go in November or May. In fact, we are planning a family trip in November, 2006. I thought it would be realy cool to take my nephew (who will be 10 in April) to WDW while his parents are on their vacation. I'm just concered it will be too busy and too hot. We have never visited any of the water parks. Any info would be helpful! Thanks! I would cancel my solo trip in May to take my nephew in August. Plus, I don't want to ruin the big family trip in November, it's the first time his Dad will be going since he was 3 years old.

it all depends on when in August you want to go - beginning of the month, middle, or end. I've always gone at the end of the month (I think the earliest was around the 22nd). The weather wasn't too bad, so long as you can stand a bit of humidity. Heat isn't too bad. And it usually rained for about 5-10 minutes each and every day we were there. It's really refreshing to walk around in the rain a bit, as it helps to cool everything off. Lines aren't too bad, but you still have to contend with families who have little kids who are out of school on summer break. When we went down, there was about a 90 minute wait for Space Mountain, 120 minute wait for Test Track, and about a 5 minute wait for classic rides (PotC, HM, etc).

Thanks js3901. I believe it would be the week of August 8th. His favorite ride is currently Fast Track. We would definitely stay on Disney property so we would also have the option of doing the late nites which he has never done before. I would much prefer the end of the month, but my brother is a Harley nut and is going out west to attend the bike rally. I also plan to get an AP and also purchase the option that I believe gives you 20% off a many of the meals.

I've been there in early August... hot, hot and humid... rains during the afternoon basically every day (though, warm rains usually, lasting an hour or two tops). Lines can be very long, especially since the "Happiest Celebration on Earth" will still be going on there.

The water parks, in my opinion, are a must... unless your hotel pool happens to not be too crowded (not likely)... personally, having gone in July and August a few times, and then November and December, I may never go back in the summer time. Just my two cents.

Thanks Spaulo! That's just what I am afraid of. My nephew has gone every other year during the second week of November and I'm afraid he will hate it when it's so hot and busy. I was planning on the water parks. He LOVES water parks and has never been to the Disney ones. Plus, I have asthma and I have a hard time when it's humid. I would just really love to take him on a Disney trip, just the two of us.

Yeah Im going in August of 06 for the first time too. I am not looking foward to the hot weather. I have always been in the Spring, Fall and Winter. I am prepared to sweat like a bastard but I can't complain because I am going for FREE because this is my 21st birthday Present so I can suffer.

As long as the crowds aren't bad, I will be pleased

Fold, when are you thinking of going. I agree with Gold, the end of August can be great.

We've gone at all times of the year, and frankly, love the storms that come through. They seem to clear the parks out. The other thing we do is plan to head back to the resort from 1-5ish. The parks are at their most crowded then, and we rest, knowing we can take advantage of the later summer hours with more stamina than those who sweat it out all day long.

Packwing - that sounds fabulous! are you planning on DTD? You must go to the Adventurer's Club and wear a birthday button.

Well see my birthday is in May and we were originally gonna attend in May but that got delayed because I'm taking a summer course.

And what is DTD?

DTD - Downtown Disney. I should have specifically said the Pleasure Island district (in the middle, nightclubs, comedy clubs, etc) It's a lot of fun, but doesn't really get going until later at night - waaaayyyyy past this 'ole fart's bedtime!

Which should I do?

Drink a beer in each country in the World Showcase or Pleasure Island?

I'll prolly do Pleasure Island because I love enjoying the scenary in World Showcase and probably wouldn't enjoy it as much being a little tipsy and I hear the beers in Germay are pretty big..... lol

Thanks for the info everyone. Sorry for the delay I was on Jury Duty. I just found out that my brother and sister-in-law will be away the second week of August so that is the week I would take my nephew. Let's face it, if his
parents can go away, why can't I take him to his favorite place! I wish they were going the third week of August. I am going to talk to them over the holidays and see what they think. I could make the trip my nephew's 10th birthday present!

Packwing - Do you know what week you will be at WDW in August? Sounds like you are going to have a great birthday.

all i got to say is like i told quickgold is to pack some gold bond powder and wear shorts cuz if you wear pants its crotch pants cooking and lots of chaffing, i suggest shorts or a swim suit with pockets that are quick drying or wicking, so if you get wet on splash mountian it wont be so bad, and you walking around like you have a wet diaper on - that is unless you want to look like that

Ya my shorrs are good so I dont sweat as much

No jean shorts for me!

I just have to make sure I get my head shaved before I go but also plan to bring a cap so I don't burn on top of my head (ouch!)
