Goodbye Mickey's Toontown Fair

Post by MadEye » Feb Fri 11, 2011 1:22 pm

As most of you know, I planned on spending a day at WDW to say goodbye to Mickey's Toontown Fair. Well it took two days instead but I got some photos.

First, nothing to do with MTTF but for any Packers fans on the board, your MVP of Super Bowl XLV:

Went to EPCOT for lunch one day and wanted to see American Adventure and while waiting, figured I'd take two picture of a cool painting in the lobby. Notice anything that changes? If not, I'll give a hint later.

And now onto the MTTF pictures.

First up, the chickens of Barnstormer. Why not the ride itself? It isn't changing except a new paint job and the chickens are from World of Motion and we don't know if they'll still be there after it reopens as Great Goofini.

Took a few photos from the top of Barnstormer's lift hill and they came out crappy... :( Sorry, I tried.

And onto the houses of Mickey and Minnie

First up: Mickey

And of course Minnie's house.

And last but not least (and not in MTTF either) a photo of that snack cart made for the Beauty and The Beast area

Something I just learned: Mickey has reading glasses. I'm shocked, but none of us are getting any younger.

I also like the take-off on Edward Hopper's Nighthawks.

Thanks for posting the photos - especially since I didn't have a chance to visit Mickey's Toontown Fair one last time because of the closing today :)

I liked it there...

I'm crushed that it will be closed for when I go next year. This is making me want to spend a lot more time in Mickey's Toontown here in DLR but these are great photos!

Very nice photo journey MadEye ~ thanks for taking all the photos. I chuckled at Donald and the shark photos, I don't remember those...
I'm ready for the clue about the airplane painting!!

Great details, Mad Eye. It reminded me what a good job the Imagineers have done even with a simple walkthrough exhibit like Mickey's house. WDW's TT never matched DL's. Still there were wonderful details in it. Thanks.

For those wondering: The plane paining follows you from side to side. Notice how I took the photos from both sides of the painting and the angles changed?

Concept art for Goofini has red planes as Barnstormer had blue and it was across the "street" from Minnie's house.

I actually did notice that, but I didn't know that was the answer. Makes me want to go to the American Adventure next trip to see it for myself and to show the kids.

Is the AA plane painting a lenticular?

I noticed that too but wondered if something else was happening as well. It almost seemed like the lights were a little brighter in one of the photos too.
I echo mindflipper's question ~ could you tell how the effect was achieved? I would guess a lenticular print might be the easiest solution.

I think that's what you call it. I've seen the same effect with the JFK presidential portrait at the White House (I think. That was back in 93).
