That takes alot of time doesn't it? Can you record it for longer periods of time? Just curious because I can't get this at my work. I tried and tried and couldn't get it to work. I love the music and would love to hear it during the day.

doesn't take too long. records at the same time it plays. as long as the music is playing and the stream ripper is going, you can record as long as the computer has room. one indicator that people are ripping from the station is: people "listening" for extended periods of time (over 8 or 9 hours). we'll usually kick those people and if they come back instantly, it's more than likely a ripper.

that was a very well explained way of letting them know what Stream Ripping is. I would have just said "its like recoding the radio to hear your favorite song with out going and buying the CD" but yours works so much better

So if I'm reading this right you can't record stuff to listen to at work right? I have a recorder thingy on my computer that sounds like what you guys are calling a ripper. I used to use it to listen to some concerts on websites.

It seems your missing the point. You asked what ripping was, we are explaining it to you. We DO NOT allow the saving the music to your drive.
We are not telling you how to rip. Please don't mention that you do or we'll have to ban you.

I'm sorry you can't listen at work. Have you tried winamp or connect to one of the other bit rate stations?

Sometimes work has specific ports blocked.

I thought that the ripping was a program or something. No biggie. I'll just listen when I can. I wasn't asking how to record it I just wanted to be clear that no matter what you use (Program or what have you) that you didn't want people to record the music. I understand now. Thanks.

Don't ban me please. This is too cool. I love that you can request a song and it will come on.

Muchas Gracias.

1) Right Click on your desktop
2) Choose Properties
3) Select the "Desktop" tab
4) Click on "Customize Desktop"
5) Select the "Web" tab
6) Click "New"
7) Put in the location http://www.subsonicradio.com/station/current_song.php
8) Click "Okay"
9) Play around with the properties to your liking
I don't know if it is just me, but when I change to active desktop, my desktop tends to crash on occation. Maybe this is fixed in XP, but I don't use XP all that much.

I had no clue how ripping works, but know it's a bit of a problem. I hope your workaround helps you a bit - I know how tough it is doing this out of your own pocket, time, and energy, and you should be getting nothing but support from your listeners. I can't use any of the players as I'm on a mac and they generally work for me, but I love your no-navigation page with the tracks listed on them. I shrink the window size waaayyyy down so I can only see the now playing and upcoming tracks in the lower right corner of my screen (love seeing what is coming up!) and it works great for me. I do have a tendency to listen for hours on end as I'm at work, however, don't mind if I get thrown off and have to relog in.

It's all good. Thank you.

Active Desktop has flaws and Microsoft doesn't really what people using it. I always suggest you just use my Radio Player (windows Only) and it has a setting that displays the current song

Check out this section on the exact things my player can do
