I'm guessing from what TTR had wrote he had his hands tightly wrapped around whatever he could hold onto during the entire ride, so that experience may not be the best test to determine if raising your arms during the ride is safe or not. I know personally I'm 6'4" and haven't done that either. Not that I wonder if it's safe or not; I just don't find it comfortable thing to do while riding.Polynesian Princess wrote:Well since you obviously survived I guess that answers the question that I've always wondered about whether or not my 5'4" self could safely raise my hands on Space Mountain without getting them amputated.TikiTikiRoom wrote:Space Mountain. I wasn't saying he had his hands in the air, just that he's a foot taller than me so my hands in the air wouldn't be much higher than his head. I've read several places online that there's more than enough room for you to do it there and I've done it on others, but that one I always chicken out of.

Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

Re: Least comfortable ride seats
I don't know if anyone else has this problem, or if I am just weird, but Space Mountain's seats are probably least comfortable to me. I'm 6 feet tall, and i have a rough time getting into the seats, and getting out of the seats. And the whole time i'm on the ride, i have to have the lapbar just loose enough that i can breathe. With that ride its either "don't breathe" or "slide around in the seat the whole time and feel like you are going to fall into a black hole." i choose black hole over not breathing.

I wouldn't recommend it. I'm sure there is plenty of clearance, especially if you are only 5'4", but it just doesn't seem worth the risk...Polynesian Princess wrote:I wasn't saying he had his hands in the air, just that he's a foot taller than me so my hands in the air wouldn't be much higher than his head. Maybe you could work on breathing exercises before your next trip so you can learn to hold your breath for a good 3 minutes or so!joeybTNU wrote:I don't know if anyone else has this problem, or if I am just weird, but Space Mountain's seats are probably least comfortable to me. I am scared I will lose my hands and head on that ride, so I keep them tucked in close to my side and keep my head down low. Everytime we make a turn, I lean the other way so my head isn't hitting a pole on the inside of the turn. It's so dark in there, and I can't see hardly!

That's why I keep hoping one day I'm sitting behind some brave soul who keeps their hands up the whole time so I can see for myself without risking personal harm.Amy wrote:I wouldn't recommend it. Re: Least comfortable ride seats
I found this while looking for which Space Mountain's have more than one track...
(the link if you are interested in reading more... http://www.hiddenmickeys.org/Disneyland ... ntain.html )I rode Space Mountain with the lights on. It was with a 7 am educational tour. Some cross members, that the cars go under, have plastic deflectors over the metal beams. The guide said that they were there to help stop broken fingers from riding with your hands in the air.

If you really try, you can break a finger. I hit my hand once, that stopped me from putting my hands up on Sapce Mountain ever again. Space is very limited!
CONFIRMED: Tony Crescenzo 27 JUN 97
Don't worry, you are not in trouble if you sit up straight on Space Mountain. This always used to worry me because I am nearly six feet tall, but when I rode it with the lights on at the 96 AP party, I made sure that the clearances were all fine. Holding your hands outside the car or up in the air is a different story, however....

I would like to add the Tiki Room. They're just benches. Would it kill them to add some cushions to it as you're sitting there for the show?

Re: Least comfortable ride seats
Most seats on Tower of Terror are comfortable enough to me, but I HATE sitting against the side walls, particularly in the middle row. There is a bar that goes across that my arm sits against. In the front or back, I can rest my arm on it if I like, but in the middle there's also a vertical bar that crosses there. Somehow I always seem to end up there.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed reading that. In my research that I've done, I've seen a lot of ones who say they've done it personally with no trouble and the ones who say you'll hit your hands were told by a "friend" or they "heard about someone". Some of them are talking about the tunnels, which you can reach. I think I'm going to be brave this time, but at least try it the first time with my hands half up.Amy wrote:I found this while looking for which Space Mountain's have more than one track...

Haha...I always half-way put my hands up on Space Mountain...enough for it to be fun...but not enough to chance losing fingers! I guess that is just part of what makes the ride so great...the fear of it being in the dark. I do the same thing on BTMR...when you go under the dino bones...I know I won't hit my hands but I am too scared to put my arms all the way up.

lmao well I know that before the renovation a long long time back I raised my hands and had the %$^&&* knocked out of my wrists lol and I'm only 6'-2" and I still hold my head down lol I just seem to feel the breeze passing under the steelmindflipper wrote:I'm guessing from what TTR had wrote he had his hands tightly wrapped around whatever he could hold onto during the entire ride, so that experience may not be the best test to determine if raising your arms during the ride is safe or not. I put my arms all the way up on every other thrill ride. I remember watching a video clip on the old Disney World Explorer computer program and it talked about how they place the objects to look close, but make sure that even the tallest dare devils have enough room to raise their hands. But it's funny because your reflex is to pull back anyways. I think it's funny when I pull back from the Yeti.theBIGyowski wrote:I do the same thing on BTMR...when you go under the dino bones...I know I won't hit my hands but I am too scared to put my arms all the way up.

oh my god i do that every time. My sister and I went on it three times in a row (early birds), and pretty much each time i freaked out. That yeti, man. He's scary.Polynesian Princess wrote:I put my arms all the way up on every other thrill ride. I too am scared to put my arms up on Space Mt and I am only 5' 3! I also don't like the front seat!! I had never been in the front until this last trip and I didn't anticipate how different an experience that would be.

When you ride in front there's nothing between you and the great unknown....jlpeaches255 wrote:I too am scared to put my arms up on Space Mt and I am only 5' 3! I also don't like the front seat!!
