Last year after waiting for over 45 min in line it was finally our turn on California Screamin'. It was the first time my 8 year old son was going on this ride as he finally reached the height requirement. While waiting to take off at the beginning of the ride (where the countdown takes place) we just sat there for about 10 min. Not much time for me, but an eternity for an 8 year old. A cast member ended up taking us off the ride right there and we had to walk on a gangplank off the ride. We were given a fastpass to use on any other ride in the park, and just waited to use it later in the day when the ride was operational again. During the ride my 8 year old became so terrified, he ended up somehow grabbing my arm and bit it really hard. At least I got a great memory of his first big coaster ride.
What rides have you been stuck on when they broke down?

First for me on Saturday- Soarin' broke!
We sat in our seats for ages before they "cancelled our flight" but hey, I got a free readmission pass to the ride that is good till the end of the month- saves me the pain of scoring a Fastpass when the park is busy.

I didn't, but my mom got stuck on the MK's Haunted Mansion as a kid once for 20 minutes. Some bad kids were even running around scaring other guests in thier buggies.

The worst case of this that I've heard concerning the HM was a teenage girl trying to leap from doombuggy to doombuggy. She fell, her hair got caught up in the chains of omnimover system, and ripped off her hair and part of her scalp. People do stupid things sometimes in a ride.jenna12381 wrote:I didn't, but my mom got stuck on the MK's Haunted Mansion as a kid once for 20 minutes. This happens quite a bit on busy days. It's not so much that they forgot to tell the Stretch CMs as it's just hard to let people know. Everyone has a job to do, and communication to the CMs in the Foyer that the ride is stopped can be hard. There's an intercom in there, but talking on it in front of guests would be bad show, even if you heard it ring (which is hard). Not to mention you are on a schedule.leblanan wrote:We were once in the haunted mansion in Disney World, and we were exiting the chambers at the beginning and it was completely packed in the ride loading area, so we didn't move for about 10 minutes but they forgot to tell the cast members outside who let in two more groups of people. Now, both chambers were packed with people and no one was going anywhere. The Chambers however kept going... They reset themselves and went through the whole experience again, so we got to watch the ceilings come down and then go back up through the whole part of the show. It was annoying waiting, but it was a cool thing to see.haunt1000 wrote:
I cant wait to get stuck in the Haunted Mansions Elevator! I think that would be the coolest!
Once you've been there long enough, you start to recognize the signs of the hall backing up. I recognize when the ride isn't making noise and if the hall is full, I'll pull in fewer people. I very rarely have trouble emptying my stretch room at this point, but I've had a lot of practice. Not every Cast Member has, and mistakes happen.
That said, by the way, I should point out in this thread: the Haunted Mansion very rarely breaks down. If the hallway is backed up and the ride hasn't moved for a while, 99 times out of 100 (at least), the ride is stopped for a guest who needs special assistance. Sometimes that can take a very long time (10 minutes is not unheard of), especially if a guest is coming off and another guest getting on. Here's a little bit of cool trivia for you: if you're in the load area and the ride is stopped and the numbers on the buggies in the load are are in the 140s, then you know it's stopped to board guests requiring special assistance (there are specific buggies we stop on at unload to help guests board).

As far as responding to the topic, I have no idea. Most of the time when a ride stops, it's not actually "broken down." Rides do suffer technical difficulties, of course, but most of the time if they do, you're not likely to start moving again.
The only times I know I've been on a ride that had technical difficulties have been when I was evacuated. That's happened five times on Splash Mountain, once to Tower of Terror, once on Carousal of Progress (had to watch the 1940s scene 3 1/2 times) and twice on the Haunted Mansion (including once when I was actually working picking up trash). I was also once the last person off of Peter Pan's Flight before it had to evac.

That is some cool insider information! Having a disabled family member, I know quite a lot that some rides get stopped in order to board these guests. Disabled guests can't jump right in a vehicle quickly, nor can they jump out of the vehicle at the end.MansionButler wrote:As far as responding to the topic, I have no idea. If you look on the right side (your left when you're sitting down) of the buggy in this picture, you'll see a bright white spot. That's the number.Amy wrote:That is some cool insider information! We were at Dland yesterday (for my birthday visit!) and got stuck on Autopia! One of the cars decided to die and we sat there for about 10 minutes. Not bad at all, right above Nemo and gazed at matterhorn while waiting. I'll post some pics later on to my photobucket. Sure was a great day to go though...no lines whatsoever!!!

Re: What rides have you been stuck on when they broke down?
My husband and I got stuck on Splash Mountain for over an hour at the 4th lift hill (the tiny one after the big hill). They kept trying to fix it and everyone would move forward one log, but they finally gave up and came to evacuate us. We got a really nice walking tour where we even got to walk behind the mountain. It was really cool (except for the hour long wait part) and I got some nice pictures that I'll share soon. We got a fast pass for any MK attraction, but we were there in March when it wasn't crowded at all and it only saved us about 15 minutes of wait time - nothing compared to the hour we lost on the ride. We joked that we would have rather gotten a t-shirt or something.
We've also gotten stuck on Primeval Whirl. Thankfully they had allowed my husband to ride under separate bars that time or we would have been really uncomfortable during our approximately 20 minute wait to evacuate. We were at the bottom of the track, but the second to the last car from the load/unload platform. We had to climb down a ladder to get out of the car, which was a little scary for me.
We only got a little walking tour that time, but it was interesting to see just how close they have some cast member trailers located there, but you would never know it because they're hidden so well by trees and such. They offered us fast passes to any AK attraction, but because of the delay we were rushing to make a dinner reservation and it was the next to the last day of our trip, so we weren't going to back at AK to use them. Looking back I wish we had take them just to save as a souvenir, but oh well.

Can't wait to take my twin boys on their first trip to Walt Disney World! Planning on heading there sometime Feb-May 2014!

An hour stuck on any ride would be a bummer ~ that should have been good for more than just one FP...like two or three FP's!!Polynesian Princess wrote:My husband and I got stuck on Splash Mountain for over an hour at the 4th lift hill (the tiny one after the big hill). Yup, FP make nice souvenirs ~ especially if you have no chance of using them...
