Most Overrated and Favorite Restaurant?

Post by mdk010 » Dec Thu 30, 2010 12:07 pm

I'm curious to see what everyone's favorite restaurant is, as well as what everyone thinks the most overrated one is? I know it'll vary from person to person, but I am just curious.

For me, my favorite is Artists' Point. You can't beat the Pacific Northwest feel with great food, atmosphere, and smokey cedar smell. I've also been lucky enough to have a great waiter there several times, Carlos.

My most overrated is Coral Reef. Mediocre food. The times I've been there the service was slow. I do enjoy watching the fish though.

My favorite is the California Grill despite the figure presented on the check at the end of the evening. Great food and best view (potentially)

Most overrated for me is a toss up between Ohana and Le Cellier with the slight edge foing to Le Cellier simply because it is SOOO hyped on every fan site! I found the majority of Ohana's main meat dishes to be charred to the point of being inedible so it was probably the most disappointing dinner I had on property (only because my expectations were not high for Tony's Town Square which was terrible), but there's more buzz about Le Cellier than Ohana and for me Le Cellier is just an overpriced Buggaboo Creek/Outback in terms of quality. The bread/pretzel sticks are great though.

I agree with you on Le Cellier. In 2001 it was similar in that everyone raves about it, but I've had better steaks/beef in Canada (Gothom and Hy's ftw!).

I'm going to say no favorites since I've never been to a place twice (not becasue it wasn't great but because some places changed between visits or I just wanted to try a different place).

I don't know that I have a favorite restaurant. My most favorite treat at either DL or WDW is the honkin' rice krispie block so I guess I wouldn't really be considered a food connoisseur  We did get to try the pretzel/bread sticks and soup at Le Cellier this trip and I wasn't overly impressed because is was loaded with onions which I don't care for. My Mom liked the soup but probably wouldn't get it again for as much as it cost though :(

Favorite: Hollywood Brown Derby - I cannot get enough of that restaurant!
Overrated: Le Cellier, no contest! Although I bet its rating will go down this year when it moves from a 1 TS to 2 TS status.

I don't follow the entire dining plan thing, so what does the status change entail?

Most Favorite: For me it is a three-way tie. I would rank Le Cellier, O'hana, and Prime Time Cafe. I really love the Kansas City Strip Steak at Le Cellier. The food at O'hana is superb, and Prime Time Cafe is extremely consistent. The food is always really good and the CM interaction with the guest is fantastic.

Most Overrated: Two way tie. Teppan Edo since the portions were VERY tiny, the food was EXTREMELY expensive and it was just average. The other restaurant was Coral Reef, but there is a long story behind it that entails a last day of vacation depression and receiving an unpleasant email from my school which ended up being sent in error. Other than that, I really felt you paid for the atmosphere and experience rather than the food.

From what I gather, right now, Le Cellier takes just one table service credit when you dine there, soon it will require two table service credits ~ so essentially it will cost twice as much to eat there as it did before if you are on the dining plan. I don't know that the actual prices will be rising so it might make sense to simply pay cash if you dine there after it changes to two credits?!

Le Cellier is moving to two credits for the dinner. Lunch will still be one credit. I've never been so I plan on going for my next trip just so I can state that I've experienced it. I'm not going with overtly high hopes because too much high expectations can ruin anything. \

Truthfully, I don't think I've ever eaten at a table service restaurant at WDW. Hope to change that in 2011.

It should enable Disney to raise prices but more importantly for some people, the restaurant will be easier to get into now that it's a 2 TS. People on the dining plan tend to stay away from 2 TS restaurants because it eats up their credits faster. If they're on the regular dining plan, they get only 1 TS a day, so if they go to a 2 TS restaurant using the plan, they have to pay cash for another meal. Most people would rather just eat at 1 TS restaurants than use more cash, since the plan is already pretty expensive.

I know that a lot of people appear to be up in arms over it but it might actually improve the resturant too since they won't need to rush people through (in as polite a way as possible) because they are going to have 8 dinner seatings in a night.

Hopefully they won't issue a statement akin to the CEO of Louis Roederer in regards to the consumption of his Critstal brand.

I like that 2 table credits will open up the availability of Le Cellier. Now this guy will have a better chance of booking a dinner there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jlfc8zZF7Wc

Favorite is tough for me - I am currently in love w/ Cape May Cafe (crablegs=love) but I also really like Artist Point and a few others.

Overrated would be Chefs de France. I remember hearing a lot of great things about it and when we ate there it was underwhelming.

BuDz211 - Electric Umbrella... now that was funny. Thanks.

Favorite: I am biased as I think my favorite is now Ohana. It may have just been the great company we were with but I think the atmosphere was excellent and the amount of food was amazing. It is definitely a large group restaurant. For smaller scale, I would have to agree with Len90 and say the Prime Time Cafe as it is always fun to eat there and you can get some comfort food that you don't really find at other table service restaurants.

Overrated: I haven't been anywhere that I would classify as overrated, so I'll bow out of this one. I haven't been able to land a ressie for Le Cellier lately, so I can't comment on it. I think the last time I went there it was for lunch and was probably in the 1990's.
