I haven't heard anything on it but I would assume they'd get rid of the stage to make room for the viewing.

I wonder if it's one of the rolling stages that they had for the holidays/high school musical stuff? I went yesterday (I wanted my Han Cholo Tron belt buckle) and the area was clear.

It could be a rolling stage but the little stages they have look like they could be picked up and taken away.

Is it me or is the new entrance literally a duplicate of DHS in Florida. I personally will miss the giant letters. They were kind of cool to see when entering the park.

It does look very similar. I'll miss the letters, too. I don't think Disney realizes how many people have taken pictures of themselves and loved ones beside those letters. They made a great photo opportunity. The new entrance does not.

I'm not surprised the letters are gone - I have always felt that Disney in the end will re-brand the park with a new name. It's only a matter of time. Very little of it feels like California Adventures any more anyway. So much of the park seems to be Pixar (except for the Little Mermaid and Muppets) that I had wonder if it would somehow be re-branded with that in mind, or maybe re-branded as the "Disney Studios California" themepark.

I always felt that California Adventure was like a Pixar park based on how much Pixar is actually in there.

It isn't you. Disney has even said that's what they wanted it to look like because it looks like Hollywood when Walt got there in the 20's.

No, it will be a duplicate of DHS. That was my first initial thought when I saw the concept art.

I had the same initial thought. While I appreciate the theming effort, I feel like the new entrance is nothing special though.

While the old entrance was memorable:

Especially since it is a total copy of MGM's front gate. I take it they are going to dismantle the Golden Gate Bridge at the front of the park as well?

The bridge is going. You can see in the concept art that it will just be a plain monorail beam.

n.b. I should have posted before that those are my 3 kids from 2006. The reason I posted it is because part of the problem of creating a generic and rather unmemorable entrance (and removing a memorable and interesting one) is that people's memories often center around places to which they return year after year for photos as markers of occasions and changes. The larger problem no one is really discussing in this thread is that by removing the letters, Disney is removing that moment for people. Cal. Adventure needs more of those, not less, if it wants to build connections that encourage people to return to the park year after year. A generic entrance loses that moment and those connections. In the words of the old Disney Kodak song, "Making memories, making memories. Taking pictures is making memories." That's what it's all about, folks.
