Just gotta ask - how are we defining "broken down"? I had a friend talk about how a ride "broke down" on him, but what happened was the ride was stopped for 1-3 minutes and then started up again. I told him it may not be the ride, but the ride having to be stopped in order to board or disembark a disabled or elderly guest. The speils that come on about "technical difficulties" are automatic, when there is not, in fact, a "break-down". Also, if a guest misbehaves - getting out of their doombuggy while moving in the HM, throwing something from their people mover car - then they will stop the ride for safety concerns, but the ride still, in fact, hasn't broken down. I have not had a ride break down on me yet; however, I have had rides stopped for both of these reasons numerous times.

You make a great point about that. I do think that the omnimover type rides are pretty stable and don't break down like the spiel says. However, if the safety railing raises up, lights go on, a magical walking railing rises up next to the ride vehicles, or parts of the ride are interrupted, then I guess we can call it a break down.mindflipper wrote:Just gotta ask - how are we defining "broken down"? I also got stuck on Alice when I was little with my Mom (early 70;s). Freaked me out! They had to walk us out. Haven't been on it since...

WOW--holy old threads..!
The only one I have ever been on that has been down for more than a minute or so is Buzz.
It was about 5 mins and let me tell you---that's a long time to hear those ion cannons pulsing.
And you are right MF---there are many definitions of what could be "broke down."

Lets see, over the years it's only been a few.
Matterhorn twice, once near the top and once about midway.
Rocket rods twice, at the exit of space mountain and near the monorail
Alice in wonderland
and star tours, though that isn't really stuck, the ride just went into an emergency stop.

I saw this happen today but I wasn't on it but one of the monorails got stuck on the track in the esplanade in between the DLR and DCA entrances. I don't know how long it was stuck there but it ended up working not too long after. I took this photo with my phone so excuse the size.

Not on any Diz rides, but other theme-parks. The old Kongfrontation at US in Orlando. And from way back when I was kid, a ride at a park called Astro-World (maybe Mousekedude as a Texan would remember this old park?). They had this cavern/cave area in a mountain ride that was snowy and loaded with animated fake penguins. It may have been summer outside and we were all dressed in shorts and short-sleeves, but the area we broken down in was freezing! They left us there like that for over 25 minutes in that freezing area until they could the ride re-started. That was our family's first and only visit to Astro-World.

Hmm. I wonder why...mindflipper wrote:They left us there like that for over 25 minutes in that freezing area until they could the ride re-started. That was our family's first and only visit to Astro-World.

I count myself lucky. The longest I've ever been stuck on a ride was a few minutes halfway up the big hill for EE. I was fine, but DD beside me was a little freaked out by the experience. Needless to say, she recovered quickly and rode it 3 more times that day.

Needless to say last Friday was a good day for getting stuck on a ride.
We got in our seats as Big Thunder went down after our fast pass was taken. Then went down again when we were in line.
The haunted mansion went down while we were in the loading shuts for the DOOM BUGGIES.
Pirates went down for a few hours.
Space went down for a few hours.
Sunday TSM went down for 10 minutes, while we were in line.
Lots of people lots of fun.
Happy Holidays.

Oh I forgot one, Indiana Jones was another one. Apparently a car broke a hydraulic and stopped (it possibly spun out on the oil during the stop) so we got evacuated out of that. The only downer was that our options were to either stay until the ride was working again or leave with no return pass for the ride.

I like to track the wait times throughout the day via the ride hopper app (not sure how accurate it is, but it's fun when you can't be there). I remember seeing that on Friday...it seemed like everything was going down that day!!!garyman wrote:Needless to say last Friday was a good day for getting stuck on a ride.
